One of the answers is a story that the person claims to be true. I honestly dont believe she, nor anyone else, believes it is real. They might believe the moral of the story is true, but not the actual story. But she goes on to say that God is her wittness- wouldnt that be a sin?

Saying a false fact then saying God said its true, or something to that order. It kinda just blows me away how she is so willing to do that. Would that be a sin?

It shocks me that someone who believes in God, is close to God, and professes his/her love of God would give a bold faced lie and say 'as God as my wittness'

Putting words in God's mouth is clearly a sin. We are to learn of God's words and obey him, not put ourselves on his throne and use him as our "man behind the curtain."

The work of a prophet is to speak God's words to others. If these words are not from God, the speaker is a false prophet, which has always been considered as a serious sin.

Jeremiah 23:16: "This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD."

The test of the true prophet is twofold. First, the prophecy has to be consistent with our knowledge of God. Second, the prophet must demonstrate great personal holiness, for God does not reveal himself except to his closest friends.

The story about Mary decrying statues is not consistent with other scriptural evidence about sculpture. For example, God directed the Hebrews to make golden sculptures of cherubim (Ex. 25:18–20).

The false Mary prophesy alleges a falsehood: That Catholics pray to Mary. Rather, Catholics ask Mary to pray for us, recognizing that the Mother of God is alive in heaven with her son.

Cheers,
Bruce

Well, if by putting words in God's mouth you are refferring to saying "God is my wittness", I would say no; since that is merely an expression to intensify a truth that a person is trying to share. It would be a sin of course if the "truth" turns out to be a lie. But saying that God says things he has not said, truly is sin. There were false prophets in the old Israel that did such, and got themselves in deep trouble with the Almighty.

The word of God is "Unique" and it's not possible to fool people ALL the time, by making self-proclamations, about the word of God. I do appreciate your question, though. It's a good question. What you say, does happen. But, people will eventually understand the perpetrator of fraud, and deal with such a person (or persons).

People from all religions put words in god's mouth every day. One could say that every word of every holy text is putting words in god's mouth, cause nothing can be proven to be directly from god.

I personally don't believe in sin, so I don't think this is a sin, it's just presumptious.

Quran Chapter 16 .An-Nahl
38
They solemnly swear their strongest oaths by Allah: "Allah will never raise the dead to life." Why not? It is a promise which He has made binding on Himself, though most among mankind may not know it.

39
It will be fulfilled so that He may manifest to them the Truth about which they differ, and so that the rejecters of Truth may know that they were indeed liars.
