Talk about current events- they don't have to be political.
There is a lot in the news lately- celeb gossip, the weather, etc.
If your coworkers don't mind, you can ask about family- how big is your family? Extended family?
Ask about books- what kind of books do people read and why? Can they suggest some good books to read? If you want, read the books they suggest, then, use it as a way to discuss.
Ask about hobbies- does anyone like to cook? bake? What do they like to do when they aren't working?
What tv shows do they watch? Do you watch the same ones? You can be tv critics on the job.
Can they recommend any good movies? What should you rent the next time? You can discuss movie genres (types).

Why are you so uncomfortable? You don't have to talk to them ALL the time. Do you feel like they're uncomfortable too or are you puttin all this in your head. Just get yourself together and BE yourself. It'll get easier over time when you let that anxiety go. ;)
Karmy, get a life...

Since everyone likes to talk about themselves, my favorite conversation starter is this formula:
That's an _(adjective)_ __(noun)__. I bet there's a story behind that.
For example "That's a pretty ring" or "That's a cool paint job".
See what I mean?
Hope this helps!

don't force conversations. if they want to talk they'll talk but if you want to be polite try not talking about yourself. ask them about themselves ex.
"did you see that show last night..."
"what are your plans for the holiday..."
go on with what they're talking about. like if they say oh i'm hanging with my family say, "thats cool is it like a tradition for you all" just build up but try to keep it on them but don't turn it into an interview. try to sound and be really interested in what they're saying but not overly eager to have the conversation because thats just creepy.
