My dealership is recomending a front axel fluid change / service at 12000 miles for my 06 Rubicon. This runs about $400.00. With so few miles I am sceptical of the need but don't want to void my warranty. Also it is not indicated in my service manual as needed at this mileage. I would like an opinion on this from someone who works in the industry.
Thanks.

holy crap. yes you need to replace the front and rear diff fluid every 12,000 miles, but it is $65 per axle where i work. are you sure that $400 doesn't include other work that needed to be done? if it is only for a fluid change, never go back there again.

I do not believe that Jeep recommends this till 18,000 miles. Look in your Owners Manual. Look at the far side for a dark band on the pages. This is your Service Schedule. This will show you what Jeep requires. Anything over and above this is up to you.

Do you need to change the differential fluid? Yes, very good practice. Do you need to pay $400? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
You should also change the rear axle. These are large highly loaded gears that wear in for the first several thousand miles as they mate together and establish a wear pattern, so there are metallic particles that get into the oil early. Yes, I am aware that this maintenance is not called for, but for long life do it and do it yourself, Not hard.
Good Luck

I will find you and slap you on the head if you pay that much for a fluid change. in other words heck no. Jiffy Lube will do it for way less. Not 100% sure on the mileage for your Jeep, but it sounds about right.
