They are the same thing! But the crock pot is made for anything and a slow cooker is mostly made for just Stew and other things like that!

- there is a difference.

Crock pots heat from the side and are considered a true "Crock Pot". They also usually only have two settings High and Low and also may have a warm setting.

Slow cookers heat from the Bottom and have several temperature settings and possibly timer settings.

Slow cookers run the risk of burning food since they heat from the bottom only. While the true Crock Pot heat the food evenly from the sides.

Though true Cock-Pot is also a name brand found on Rival "Slow Cookers" which tends to confuse people looking for a true Crock Pot, for obvious reasons. Rival Claims to be the inventor of the "device" - which may or may not be a marketing ploy of a play on words meaning they invented the "Crock-Pot Slow cooker" not the Crock pot its self.

Since clay pots used for slow cooking have been around a lot longer than Rival i would tend to believe they invented the "electric" slow cooker aptly trade named the Crock-Pot with the hyphen.

Perhaps someone would like to do some further research and give a definitive answer on the Rival role of the crock pot or clay pot slow cooking method.

I've added a link to asource th shows slow cooking done today in affrica in clay pots as it was in the 16th century and i'm sure the method was around prior to that.

Slow cooking in general whether in a slow cooker or crock pot or just slow cooking, has both it's pros and cons.

One of the pros to slow cooking is easy to use especially for single people

and one of the cons being nutrients and minerals are claimed to be lost in the slow cooking method for some foods.

hope this helps

They are the exact same thing. The only difference is that the term “slow cooker” refers to the appliance in general, while Crock Pot is a registered name that is the property of the Rival brand. It’s the exact same thing as Kleenex-brand disposable tissues, where a specific brand name has come to represent an entire type or class of product. In addition to the Crock Pot, I believe the manufacturer West Bend uses the term “crocker cooker” for their brand of slow cooker. Yes in general, slow cooker recipes are conceived for most to all brands of slow cookers. Of course, some brands and models have slightly different features, but in general they are similar enough not to create any major problems. You always want to keep a watch on what you are cooking, as times and temps can vary. You should also consult the manufacturers’ instructions if you have any questions.

Same thing, just like a Ford is a car. Crock Pot is the name the Rival company gives their slow cookers.

They're the same thing. It's like the pop/soda debate, it depends on the dialect of where you're living or raised. They can be used interchangeably.
