My dog has been sneezing all day poor thing, must have allergies. So his mucus is all over the place. I've noticed that it's brown. Is that normal?

Sneezing all day is not normal. Brown mucous is certainly not normal, it's a sign of infection. Allergies do not present as sneezing, so there's no 'must' about it. Clearly the dog is ill, go to the vets!!

Sorry to hit you in the pocketbook this close to Christmas, but Chalice is correct... it's vet time, TODAY.
Just as in humans, this sort of thing seldom is resolved on its own and usually gets worse.

NO!!!!! It's not, any color of the mucus is a sign of infection.
Normal nasal discharge is clear.
