The British won,The Second Boer War commonly referred to as The Boer War and also known as the South African War (outside of South Africa), the Anglo-Boer War (among most South Africans) and in Afrikaans as the Anglo-Boereoorlog or Tweede Vryheidsoorlog ("Second War of Independence"), was fought from 11 October 1899 until 31 May 1902, between the British Empire and the two independent Boer republics of the Orange but at a cost, and it was also a precursor to many new developments which should have been studied more.

On a side note, the bravery of all the Irish Regiments, The Royal Irish Fusiliers, The Royal Inniskilling fusiliers, The Dublin Fusiliers, The Munster Fusiliers, The Connaught Rangers, The Royal Irish Regiment (18th of foot NOT the Royal Irish regiment of today) The Royal Irish Rifles (later Ulster Rifles) led to the formation of the Irish Guards, and the first time Irish troops wore shamrocks in their headdress for St Patrick's day. There were also a limited amount 200 or so Irishmen on the Boer side, making it on a few occasions Irishmen fighting Irishmen.

Dr John L, I think you will find Jan smuts was on the Boer side during this war, and was on the British Side during WW1.

now I myself am a Boer i'm brought up in the South African farmlands now most people do not know this. The Boer won the the first war they were dominant as the British made ignorant mistakes. There should not have been a second war because after the Boer won the first war they signed a peace treaty with the British and became independent. When gold was discovered later on the British decided that they wanted the gold and started the second war. The British decided to attack South Africa wearing Khaki coloured clothing which was the colour that the Boer fought in. The Boer were to much for the British to handle even though they outnumbered the Boer, the Boer tactics were to great. The British knew defeat was near and decided to start the Burnt Earth Act and what this was , was the British had numbers so while some were fighting the Boer others went and killed the wives and children of the Boer, and the Boer then surrendered not willing to lose more lives. The same exact thing is taking place in today's time were the Americans are at war with Iraq and Afghanistan because they want their oil. Never consider the Boer weak and know how cowardly the British were when they relied on evil tactics to take our gold.
