I wouldn't try to cook potato soup in a crock pot, personally. I'd use a dutch oven, or the largest pot you have.

LoFlo is right on! Don't use a crock pot! Stock pots are also great for cooking any long pasta. Tall with a large capacity is what you need.

a stock pot and a crock pot are different, it is a pot that holds several pints of water or what ever you are putting in it, they come in different sizes, depending on what you are cooking you probably can use a big pan, or you can use the crock pot, it will just take a little longer to cook

Stock pots are just larger capacity. They're the big straight sided tall pots.
So, it's all down the the amounts. If what you have will fit into the pots you have, then use them. (Stock pots are for cooking stock from scratch, so they take lots of water)

I think a stock pot is the same as a crock pot...I could be wrong.

What kind of recipe is it? How does it say to cook it?

Make it in the crock pot :)

Generally, a stock pot is a large, tall pot that you would make stock in.
For example, it would be big enough to cook a whole chicken to make chicken stock.
They come in various sizes. So yes, a regular pot will do if it is large enough for what you need to cook.

A stock pot is a large pot, in which you make stock. It's just a big pot.

A pot is a pot, so cook it in a pot. One that could hold several cups of water.

A Stock pot is really just a very large pot. Use the largest pot you have. Or go to Wal-mart-or k-mart and get one. They are cheap.

Justs a big, deep pot. Assuming you're making soup or stew - something that needs a lot of room?
