If the British Special Air Service (SAS) personnel are paid anything like U.S. forces then the answer is yes. The U.S. Military has Base pay, based on rank and time in servie but they also have many special pays. Some of those special pays are associated with duty assignments and training proficency. If you are on jump status and maintain minimum jump reqirements then you get paid extra. The same goes for dive qualificaitons. If you are deployed you will get Hazardous Duty pay. When enlisted personnel in those types of careers reenlist their bonus multiplier is higher than most other personnel so they get a higher reenlistment bonus.
(Example - Pay is not taxed due to deployed status)
An Army Ranger (E-6) assigned to the 75th Rangers at Ft Bragg, who has been in for eight years, is married, lives off base, is jump/dive qualified and is deployed to a hostile location such as Iraq or Afghanistan.
-Base Pay: $2744.10
-Housing Allowance: $997
-Food Allowance: $279.88
-Jump Pay: $150 (H.A.L.O. $225)
-Dive Pay: $340 (Max)
-Family Separation: $250
-Hazardous Duty: $150
-Hostile Fire: $225

-Total: $5210.98 (May vary depending on circumstances)
That's $1190 more than a regular soldier stationed at the same place who isn't a Ranger. Oh, and if that soldier is deployed for more than 12 months he is getting $1000 per month for each month over 12. Not to bad for one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet.

I'm not sure as to the SAS, but in the US Military, risk / hazard pay(s) aren't that impressive.

I was a Helicopter Aircrewman and Rescue Swimmer, and back in 1986 when I was finally qualified as an AWAN (Airman - E-3), I received an extra $50 a month Flight Pay, and $50 a month Swimmer Pay... when I deployed I got a tiny bit for Sea-Pay (ship's personnel get Sea-Pay every day)

So, it was roughly an extra $125 a month... Added to a base-pay of approx $1005. Less than 10% increase from an average sailor of the same PAYGRADE.

During the Gulf War, we all picked up the Combat Zone hazard-pay, and enlisted-folks didn't pay taxes inside the zone.

Yes They get a Special Forces Pay Rate - according to an SAS (Reserve) page.

Plus the retention bonuses for critical career fields come in handy.

Yes, but they are not millionaires. The military pays them a risk bonus to make sure that those soldiers do not need to worry about the financial situation of their family.

They get paid the same as the rest of the army in the sense that they get extra pay for extra skills.

That's true of soldiers in all regiments.

I think as a highly trained highly motivated force, who make more sacrifices of their lives, time, and commitment to training and missions they deserve something extra.

Yes, they are, because they are far more skilled than ordinary cadets and tend to have more dangerous jobs to do.
