Are you sure it was a hawk? Hawks make a screech and not a caw sound.

Sounds more like a crow; they make 'caw' sound! Unlikely it was a hawk. Hawks circle high in the sky, coming toward ground only to capture prey they noticed from high above. Crows will not deliberately attack you, but they can be a real nuisance; better hope he didn't bring his 'family' with him!

Hawks are a bird of prey, they might have seen a small bird or even a birdfeeder near you, then they come in for the swoop. Hawks venture out great distances they dont need to nest nearby.

Probably just curious.
We have many hawks around here. Keeps the cat population down.
I bet he/she was just curious, they wont hurt you. Maybe you kicked up a mouse, or your cat or something was following you?
