I'm a Muslim, and one of my friends invited me to "Maundy Thursday" in a couple months. He says it's a footwashing service and a very humbling experience. What's it like? Do I have to do anything? Should I tell them I'm Muslim so they do something different for me or something?

In the Seventh Day Adventist church, this is part of Communion. I've never been, but I would imagine it is just what it sounds like...you wash someone's feet. And they probably wash yours.

I am a Seventh-day Adventist, and we perform "The Ordinance of Humility" in the same manner that Jesus did on the Last Supper. It is a part of our communion service, and usually takes place before we partake of the bread and grape juice. Men and women usually separate (but many churches include one for married couples), and everyone has a partner. They wash each other's feet, and pray together. Than the group sometimes will sing songs together, and than return to the sanctuary for the rest of the communion service.
I hope this helps! God bless!

This ceremony comes from the middle eastern custom of washing the ft of a shopper vacationing your position. A shopper could have traveled a lengthy distance in sandals, and could have drained, dusty ft. It changed into considered very thoughtful of a bunch to get a basin of water and a towel and wash his shopper's ft. contained in the Bible, Jesus changed into inclusive of his close followers who had all traveled to Jerusalem for his or her very last meal jointly. even as they arrived, he began to bathe their ft. lots of the followers protested, affirming that he changed into so significant, they ought to bathe HIS ft. Jesus informed them that he changed into showing them that if he could wash their ft, then they ought to bathe individuals's ft. He changed into permitting them to comprehend that he turned right into a carry close, yet a servant, too, and we could consistently serve others. A foot-washing service isn't religious, so that you do not favor to experience that, as a Muslim, you'd be made to do something you disagree with. it truly is an outstanding custom and also you'll imagine that it truly is a practise about humility and restoration from the Prophet Jesus. by the way, adult adult males wash adult adult males's ft, and women human beings wash women human beings's ft, or a minimum of it truly is how i have consistently considered it achieved.

they sit you down, take your shoes off, put your feet in or over a pan of warm water, gently dab them with a warm, wet cloth, then dry them with a soft fluffy towel

Jesus did it for sinners and prostitutes. it'll be interesting to see how many Christians haven't heard of the tradition
