Go over to Iraq, seek out a terrorist ( the news media calls them insurgents ), sit down and talk with him about the need to stop killing innocent people by chopping off their heads or blowing them up with car bombs or bomb vests.
If you leave with your head attached, I will hail you the conquering hero.
But my guess is that you will never be seen again. Except maybe on a grainy video screaming in agony as that particular terrorist saws your head off with a rusty sword.

War at its root is a failure of nations to get along and understand one another. While no one could have talked hitler out of his course of actions, poor treatment of germany, and resentment from germans following WWI allowed his rise to power. Wars are caused at root by many things, find the causes, attack them and you can make a huge effect on the number of wars in the world.

Cause: Socio-economic inequalities. When people have nothing, can afford food, or to educate thier children, they are easy prey to people who use that fustration to find someone else to blame and inflame the people to war.
Solution: Attack poverty and lack of opportunity worldwide. Research how the marshall plan prevented WWIII and the treaty of versaise caused WWII.

Cause: Misunderstanding between cultures and religions, distrust and hatred arising from this.
Solution: Learn as much about the world as you can, encourage others to do the same. Learn about and try to understand and accept other societies and religions. What would happen if 50 million school children in the west became pen pals with 50 million school children in muslim countries? 20 years down the line, I think you would see a very different world.

This is a simplified answer, but I think a good place to get you thinking from.

You cant stop a war, but the two things that create the posibility for conflict are:

IGNORANCE

(of peoples Religion, Political beliefs and opinions.)

and

ARROGANCE

(the belief that a certain race of people are superior to others by some "God! granted decree, that can never actually be proved).

You could help make a difference by becoming a school teacher.

Look at history and get out of your fantasy world. Or, why don't you take a flight to Baghdad, walk on the streets with a peace flag and find out what happens.

I commend you for wanting to be a good human being but war has not been the root of all evil in this country's history. It brought you the freedoms you enjoy today and is sometimes necessary. Take off your blinders, earth is not meant to be a Utopia. That's what Heaven is for.

Think smaller. You cannnot stop war by yourself. but you can choose to live in peace. Be the change you want in the world. Think globally, act locally.
