In 1620, some of my ancestors came over on the Mayflower. In 1714, several families (all of them my ancestors) came over with a group that founded Germanna, Virginia. My most recent (to the States) ancestors came over in the early 1800s from Wales.
Going on back, these families came from every part of Europe, the Middle East, Morrocco, Egypt, South Africa and other countries in Africa and the Orient...

My mother is half Russian; her father left Russia at age twelve and came to the UK. Originally he was from Odessa.
My father's mother used to insist her family were from Poland; we've never been entirely sure about this and have suspected they were from Russia. That said, her colouring was very fair skin, blue eyes, and gold-red hair, which is more typical of Polish colouring, I believe.... !

I have a very broad definition of "family". You have 8 gr grandparents; 16 gr gr grandparents, and the number keeps going up. I also 'adopt' my husband's ancestors as 'mine' since I am the one with the skills to locate and preserve them for the sake of his family.
Pretty much, there are few places that my version of family, does NOT come from, including China.
