i meen its pretty much the same thing, you just need a practice partner, really the only thing different that would be that the guy/girl on the video wouldnt be able to correct you if your wrong.

That difference IS the practice of martial arts. Martial arts require training with others and require a quest for perfection. Learning from video is just nonsensical. Think about it: If you learned to throw a baseball from a video, would you consider yourself a pitcher? Of course not. You've never pitched!
Or, to put it to you another way, would you get in an airplane with a pilot who learned to fly from video? The only difference is no instructor ever corrected his mistakes. How about going for surgery with a surgeon who never went to medical school but learned it all from video? The first one is not a pilot, the second one is not a surgeon and the person who learns exclusively from books and videos is not a martial artist.

If you have what masters call "foundation", you can teach yourself something from video.

Foundation means you have studied with a teacher and learned the inner workings or mechanics of your art with great proficiency.

If you are an underbelt, forget it.

Videos are a good reference. But to really understand if your doing it correctly you should be practicing under a good instructor. For both technique sake and safety.

You can learn stances and moves, but you're right...you'd need a professional instructor to tell you if you're not doing something right or to critique you on how to do things better.

I think that if you have a bit of training in a similar art you can learn quite a bit from video

You can learn something from videos but you won't be any good. Please prove me wrong though. Post your video on you tube.
