Earnhardt was planning to retire in another years or two before his death in 2001. I think the Chase would still be here, but we would still be racing back to cautions, and not have any of those stupid out of bounds lines at the big racetracks. I also think that the safety equipement would be not what it is now either. Either way- alot changed when he died, and besides safety I think it changed Nascar for the worse and took most of its spirit, challenge, and excitement out of the sport. Everything is too "safe" today, and they have even altered many tracks to make them "safer". In doing that they have stripped the risk and challenges of a demanding track and I think its made many of the races too boring and easy for the drivers. The great element of drivers always being on the edge is now gone and I think that ruins alot.

I am not sure. The helmets were not changed sport wide until after he passed away. I think that Sr had a lot of pull in the sport. He had the biggest amount of fans and if he was not happy the fans were not, so if he was not happy with the chase the fans would not be and people would not be watching. But Nascar has changed a lot since Sr's death.

Yea, there would still be a chase, but Earnhardt would have let nascar and everyone else what he thought. I think he would have been more vocal about tracks losing their venues more than the chase. To take Labor day weekend away from Darlington, Rockingham losing their venues. It's not about tradition anymore but selling out for the money.

Although Earnhardt Sr was very influential in NASCAR he was not a rule maker. But in my opinion I think he would be for the chase. In fact in the mid 80's he was rumored to be interested in coming up with a point system to make things more competitive for the champoinship.

I'm sure we would, but like Gordon I do not think he would have as much success. NASCAR is trying to get all the drivers in line. The only way to pas or win a race is to hope the guy in front of you blows up. Earnhardt's style of driving is quickly being pushed out by NASCAR.

I think possibly not, because Dale still had the rumblings of an 8th championship in him and Matt Kenseth may not have gotten the opportunity to make a boring run to the final Winston cup, a preclusion of the "chase"

yeah... But nascar would have already started to ''Fix the problem'' if he were still with us !! Sr. was won of those few who,stood-up for the fan's !!! He could intimidate ''OFF'' the track as well ! R.I.P. !!!

No, I don't believe the chase would exist. Dale didnt make the rules, but he had a huge influence on them. This is what NA$CAR is lacking now, and that's leadership from and for the drivers. No one has steped up to fill those shoes as of yet.

I could go on a rant all day about this........

we'd probably still have the chase, but hed probably be more concerned with the car of tomorrow issue than the stupid points. he didnt care about the points, he just tried to win.

I doubt it.

He has been know to say that he hated the way they changed Atlanta Speedway so I don't think he would have liked the "chase" much.
