I have a young and handsome boyfriend. His name is L.J Brown and he is African American. We have been dating for about a year and half. Now my father, to me, has a big problem with him. When I asked him if he could come over for Thanksgiving he said no. So I just decided to go with L.J and celebrate with his family. My dad called and got all mad at me becuz I decided to celebrate with my bf rather than my own family. Am I doing the right thing? What Should I do about my dad? Is my maybe future to be husband more important than my family? And yes, I am American.

This happened with me and my ex partner. At first it was natural for her to back away from her family and we ended up living happily together, but their lack of acceptence towards me did eventually drive a massive wedge between us and she wasn't strong enough and moved out. I would think carefully, because on the one hand it's your life and you need to be allowed to live how you like as long as it harms no noe and you're happy.
If you love him, have the guts to stand by him and show him and everyone else this is the case. Should it all go wrong, I'm sure your dad will never turn you away

at this point, you need to be a little bit selfish brcause no one is gonna make you happy but yourself. If you know that you are happy with this boy than you need to let your dad know that this is the person you want to be with and whether he accepts it or not, is not going to change anything. even though it is your dad and you dont want him to be upset with you, tell him to get to know him better before he disapproves of you being with him. If he refuses or it still doesn't work then don't worry about it. That's a part of your life that no one can control ot manipulate except for you.

The answer to the question depends on how old you are.
