To me, it always seems that once a christian knows im an atheist, they seem to be extra smug and look down towards me. Like they think theyre better than me. Not that im bothered by this,(I actually find it kind of humorous) but has anyone else experienced this reaction from christians?

Yeas, some think they are morally superior to Atheists, or any religion that doesn't believe that Jesus died for their sins. I feel like they are smug and look down on us, because they know that we won't fall for their act. They use God as an excuse for most of their bigoted, and close minded thoughts and behavior, that if they had to explain their attitudes without reference to "god" as some sort of justification, than they would be at a loss for realistic explanation.

I know that you asked this of atheists, however as a Christian I have to answer. NO I do not think that I am any better than an atheist or anyone else. I do believe that I am saved. There is a huge difference. Actually if I thought I was better, I would probably not be a Christian, because I would not think I needed saving. Humility before Christ leads to love for all, no matter what they believe- the reason I share my faith is that I do care for those who don't know Christ- I just wish people would realize that- if I did not care I would not share, and if God did not love you, He would not have made a way for you.

This seems to be their general attitude.

A christian was actually amazed that me, an atheist, had actually helped them. Like they hold all rights on helping others....!!

I get the impression they THINK they're better than me....... It is a "christian" thing....

Poor souls that they are, they have no existence outside of their little world....no impact..no self-confidence, little education..no sense of self-worth.

Better than all the unsaved masses, never good enough for their god. No wonder they are sometimes so vitriolic. It must not be a pleasant place to be in.

They are better than me. The word, "better", depends completely on one's definition of good. There is no absolute good.
