I'm sure there is some pain but 5 month old kittens are very resilient.

The vet usually keeps her until the following afternoon to make sure she's waking properly from the anesthetic and not having any problems.

She'll be sleepy and slow down a bit for the first day or so. Be careful when picking her up and holding her to protect her incision.

The vet will tell you to limit her activity level. HA! I've never been able to successfully accomplish that. Cats are pretty determined to do what they want to and not anything else. Trust her to stay within her physical limits.

I have had many cats spayed/neutered & also have worked in animal health care. Yes, they do have some pain but they do recuperate faster than you may think. As far as it being dangerous, in my opinion it is not for they have made great strides in the procedure is done. In most cases they now use laser which is less invasive, takes less time and the recovery time is less. We recently had a stray spayed, but because of her being a stray she did have complications of the surgery but it was due to her being malnourished and the fact that she had a severe infection of her uterus. Not to mention she had kittens six weeks before that had drained her of all her nutrients, which made her weak, tired and malnourished. Just after the surgery, put your cat in a small area of your home that is warm and quiet. Depending on the cat, they may be a bit thirsty and hungy, but monitor the intake of such for it could cause them to vomit or perhaps choke on the vomitus. Bottom line is this, there are more cats that are worse off from being ferals & strays than there is the ones that come out of surgeries (esepcially spay & neuters)

I've gotten my cat spayed too. Its not dangerous at all.
The procedure is quite fast. Your vet will mostly give some medicine for your cat's pain, although i doubt it's that painful as my cat refused to take her meds and just continued her daily activities!
You just have to be very careful when picking the cat up, especially when handling the stomach area. They tend to be a little cranky too, so be careful! Also, make sure your cat doesn't remove the stitches!
They just tend to sleep for at least a day and then, before you know it, they're back to normal.
Just follow your vet's instructions,and it'll be fine =)

Hi.

You have no need to worry about having your kitten spayed. The vet will take very good care of kitty. It is not dangerous and is a very common procedure. I have a new kitten and she was spayed at 8 weeks. Just be careful when you bring her home to ensure the stitches remain intact no hard playing> Kitty will move a little slower until she heals somewhere around 7-10 days. Please do not worry it is very very common. Good luck with her.

my Mindy was spayed this week and she's taking it fine. She's three months.
After bringing her home, she fell asleep on my sweatshirt and stayed asleep til the following morning. Whether or not it hurt is anyone's guess, Mindy didn't seem to notice and did all of her cat things the next day as if nothing happened.
Good luck!

Unless your cat has health problems, it won't be dangerous to her at all. Spaying is a routine operation.
It might hurt a bit, and you will have to use shredded newspaper for her litter box for about a week. But you'll be given antibiotics and painkillers for her until it heals.

Good luck!

your cat will be fine, just keep an eye on her for the following few days make sure there is no infection where the stiches are and keep her as quiet as you can so she doesn't pull a stich. your vet should be able to answer any questions you have.

It is not dangerous and she will be in some pain but the vet can give you pain meds for her. Just follow what the vet says after you bring her home and everything will be fine.
