I don't mind doing abit of overtime for any employer to help them out, you know the odd hour here or there is all there after so no biggy.

I started in my current employment a couple of months back and this strikes me as totally insane, what you think? So people start at 3.30am and work to 10pm at night Mon-Fri We are only supposed to work 8am-4pm Mon-Fri, they clock up something like 90 hours a week.. I think thats insane, infact I am the only employee who doesn't do it, I offer the odd hour here or there but the boss falls out with me saying thats no good..

And the best thing is the get no bonuses etc for doing it, and they only get regular pay, any where else I have worked I've always been paid at least time and a half for over time..

The tax man must love them.. Have I the wrong attitude or is this insane?

that's not only insane, it may be illegal.

If you are in the USA, call your state's labor board and ask them to take a nice look at your employer.

They may also be in violation of some IRS rules as well.

Those are pretty crazy hours. Some people might like them, because of the money they'd make, but 5-1/2 hours off between shifts all week is not even healthy, since there's no time for reasonable sleep. You should look for another job.

You don't say what country you're in. In the US, federal law mandates payment of overtime (time and a half) for hours over 40 in a week for most jobs.

This is breaking almost every part of the Working Time Directive, from working well over the maximum 48hrs per week, to not having a long enough break between shifts. If you really want to do something about it, contact the Health & Safety Executive. More info here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/WorkingHoursAndTimeOff/DG_10029426

Where do you work? It's illegal to not pay overtime. Check with your local labor law. No, you are not wrong. They should pay overtime and they can't make people work 90 hours a week. They need to hire more people to cover day shift and evening shift. I wonder how the company do it without getting caught.

No a few hours here and there are one thing, but working 90 hours in a week is beyond and like most people say that there has to be something illegal with that.

The reason you are the only one not doing it is the boss probably fires the ones he can't bully into 24 hour days.
Find a new job while the decision is still yours.
Good luck.

Whether it is illegal or not, I do not know, but I would expect anything like this to be governed by EU regulations. Anyone working these hours would be entitled to Unsocial Hours payments etc.
Maybe you should be looking for another job?

Best of luck.

You have the right attitude, your boss is breaking the law and using his workers as slave labour.

I would get another job, then report him to the health and safety executive or whoever deals with employment law.
