What is the origin of Easter and the customs associated with it?
The Encyclopedia Britannica commenst: "There is no indication of the obdervance of the Easter festival in the New Testament, or in the writings of the apostolic Fathers. The sanctity of special times was an idea absent from the minds of the first Christians." ---(1910), Vol. VIII, P. 828.
The Catholic Encyclopedia tells us: "A great many pagan customs, celebrating the return of spring, gravitated to Easter. The eggs is the emblem of the germinating life of early spring...The rabbit is a pagan symbol and has always been an emblem of fertility."------(1913), Vol. V, P. 227.
In the book The Two Babylons, by Alexander Hislop, we read: "What means the term Easter itself? It is not a Christian name. It bears its Chaldean origin on its very forehead. Easter is nothing else than Astarte, one of the titles of Beltis, the queen of heaven, whose name,.....as found by Layard on the Assyrian monuments, is Ishtar.....Such is the history of Easter. The popular observances that still attend the period of its celebration amply confirm the testimony of history as to its Babylonian character. The hot cross buns of Godd Friday, and the dyed eggs of Pasch or Easter Sunday, figured in the Chaldean rites just as they do now."----(New York, 1934), pp. 103, 107, 108; Compare Jeremiah 7:18.

Easter Bunny is a traditional pagan symbol of fertility.
Easter eggs however came about because eggs ere prohibited during Lent (before Easter) and thus were brought out to be eaten and celebrated at Easter (End of Lent).
Although some would say that the date was placed to correspond (and replace) the pagan celebration of worshiping Estre (The Teutonic Goddes of spring), in reality the celebration was originally linked to the Jewish passover.
Christians consider that Jesus' last supper was the passover meal and that he was crucified the next day, and rose three days later. So the date for celebrating the resurrection was linked to when the passover date was. This placed the celebration in the spring time. In other cultures the name for Easter is more related to the words for resurrection.

It was around the time of the spring solstice....it represents the sun coming back to the world, bring it's warmth, thereby making crops grow again.....which is how it also relates into a time of fertility, because this is also a season when all the critters are having babies. The return of the Sun God. Which Christians translated into the return of the Son of God, to make it easier for Pagans to swallow.

I remember from the bible it was something that king Herod was involved in.
That sure means that the disciples and apostles were not involved in it, it is easy to see that it is pagan as for the bunnies and eggs. Jesus said he was no part of this world John 18:38;

It started off as a pagan spring fertility/spring solstice celebration; that's where the bunnies and eggs come from. The Roman Catholic church wanted to stop people from observing the pagan rites, so they declared them celebrations of Christ. Didn't stop people from doing the pagan things, just made them think they were honoring Christ by doing them.

Easter itself is named after a Pagan goddess of spring, Eostre. It was a celebration of the equinox and the coming of spring.

All of the egg and bunny stuff is Pagan. Birth and new life and all of that is part of the Spring Equinox.
It since has been mixed in with Jesus rising again after being crucified. That part of it is Christian.
