Since my 22 month old started walking a few month ago, I put up baby gates all around the house, on the stairs, by rooms I didn't want her in and a big one around the fireplaces. But lately she's been climbing over them! I want her to be safe, but she keeps on climbing over them!

I mean she's always been able to climb out of highplaces. She was out of her crib at 19 months!

Safety-gates are only up to 2 years because most kids of 2 can climb over them - your little girl is advanced you should be proud!
Only kidding, I have a 4 year old and I know it's a hard time. The best (but hardest) way I think personally is to teach them not to go near things ie. fire is hot burn, stairs can make you fall and bang your head and go to docs etc. It means you have to be there all the time but you pretty much do at that age anyway I'm sure you'll have noticed - little monkeys use everything the wrong way even age-appropriate toys! Good results for the long-term though, my little boy is really careful near fires etc and has never been burnt or fallen down stairs, and if he ever sees anything like scissors or knives, he shouts at me to come and put them away lol!

Hi know what you are going thru my 3 yro started climbing as soon as he could stand. Did the baby gate thing didnt work got a new one thats when the geronimo charges started. he would back up across the room and run full out hit the gate and all you heard was crash and him laughing like a little maniac. to be honest i was too scared to try two gates stacked because of the way he was. you might want to try the to gates if she isnt half monkey like my son lol. and yes he still climbs everything.

My second one was the climber - and I had to do the double gate thing, or you can set one gate a little higher in the doorway, but don't leave enough space open at the bottom that she could slide under, of course! But, no matter what, my daughter would climb anything, even the piano, the bookshelf, she even tried to get up on the aquarium. I got spoiled with my first, he never did anything like his sister does!

Take the gates down. She won't get hurt by climbing and falling. Close doors to rooms that you want to keep her out of and put a hook and eye towards the top of the door on the outside. You will have to keep a closer eye on her from now on.

You might go to Petsmart/Petco or try this link below. They make taller and I think, sturdier gates. My daughter did the same thing and yes, it was scary. As for the fireplaces, you just may have to scare the dickens out of her. Try yelling "HOT" or "Poison". If not try those ugly brass hinged doors and put a hook and eye clip on them that will lock them. You can always take it down later.

Good luck. My daughter "taste tested" dog/cat food, cat litter, and fireplace ashes. Just know, that this too shall pass. Hang in there.

Put two gates - one on top of the other - in the doorways.

The fireplace - sorry no ideas there. You can try to pack pillows on the fireplace so when she does crawl over it she lands on softness.
