I'd never known the term "athiest" before I came to Yahoo answers. Based on the claims of Y!A users, it seems that athiests are evil people who eat babies, steal the faith of religious people, and generally do lots of bad stuff.

Atheists, on the other hand, simply don't believe in God.

Why do people keep confusing the terms?

Rev. Ron: That's only when the i and e are part of the same syllable. They're part of different syllables in the word "atheist".

Rev. Ron again: Maybe people starred the question before they answered.

Hannah: I realize that some people on this site don't speak English as their primary language. However, there is a spell-check feature for those people.

My point is that it seems like everybody who spells the word "athiest" thinks that "athiest" are evil. (I intentionally didn't pluralize it.)

Yes.

'athiest' is evil, and proof of the Times of 'Ending'. They are also plotting to take Christianity out of the American constitution.

'atheist' is someone who doesn't believe what theists claim.

Atheist don't believe in a God. Most of them actually don't care about other religions. However there are some atheists who will do anything just to prove to religious people that they are wrong. They post a lot here on Answers. And since they are not bound into any morality standards, they tend turn themselves in exactly the monster stuff you are saying. I am once an Atheist (now Non-religionist*), and I hadn't thought of convincing other people that they are wrong, of bastardizing the faith of others, etc. These very people you are referring to just can't find other good stuffs to do. These for me are the athiests.

*note: Non-Religionist = Believe in God but with no Religion

ah yes, one might well not have encountered the adjective 'athy' yet - it is after all not a word amongst the vocabulary of most people!

you have the meaning down to a tee though

obvioulsy in the comparative and superlative forms they drop the 'y' for an 'i' giving: athy - athier - athiest - thus all this "great sound and furious anger signifying nothing" from them as they all try to be the 'athiest'.

shamefaced edit: just checked my profile and more shame on me than them I was cussing myowndarnedstupidself down too - you live and learn!

I am an Atheist and who really cares? We live in the 21st Century now and we can all leave that Religion behind.Who can honestly waste every Sunday morning going to Church ,we are all working longer hours now.And what is spellchecker? Has that got something to do with improving your Questions and Answers?

Well... that would be due to the fact that many of us atheists are much more atheist than others, resulting in some of us being the athiest... lol
