Open the control center and go to scheduling. There will be an update schedule and a scan schedule. Simply edit the scan schedule to whatever time of day you wish.

Right click the AVG icon in the tray and then click "Launch AVG Control Center". In the Control Center window, click "Test Center". In the Test Center window, click "Scheduler". Now select the "Test plan in basic mode" and then click the "Edit "Schedule" button at the bottom. In the "Schedule Daily Test" window, remove the check mark from "Periodically start scheduled antivirus test". Click "OK".

That should do it.

You can also stop AVG from automatically downloading updates the same way.
