Dude, the best thing you can do is ask a bunch of questions. People love to talk about themselves, even shy people. Girls really love to talk about themselves, so your best bet is to act interested in her by asking a bunch of questions. You'll get to know a lot about her and she'll feel like she's connecting to you since she's sharing these things with you.
It's important to not get too deep though. Don't ask about her ex-boyfriend, or her relationship with her Dad. Just be general, like, "what are you into?", or "what's your passion?"
Other safe topics:
What book are you reading?
What was the last movie you saw?
What kind of music do you listen to?
These questions should lead to more questions, you just have to really listen and find something interesting in her answer that will lead you to your next question. This is conversation.
Every once in a while you can interject your opinion or comment about something, or simply agree with her about her answer, but don't start blabbing about your life.
Reveal yourself slowly. You'll stay interesting longer.
Good luck.

If you really want to impress a woman, don't talk -- listen. Control the conversation by asking broad questions. You can ask her about anything within reason (anything even approaching the subject of sex is out), but a good starting point would be to ask her about the best vacation she ever took or her dream vacation. Women love to talk about themselves (just like guys do), but they don't want to hear about how great you are or your cool car or your killer crib. Let HER talk. Not only does that save you from the possibility of saying something really stupid, it impresses her because you actually care enough to listen to her.

Well, Ask [Her/Him] What they like to do, and what their interests are. Compliment them, and they'll compliment you and stuff. Bring up stuff you think will be in the future. Basically say, whatever you can say. Talk, is better than none.

Ask her questions about herself. Works like a charm. You can find things in common and then tell her something related about yourself.

if you've got a good chemistry with someone, you shouldn't have to think about what to talk about. the conversation will just flow naturally.
