using a thermometor?

2007-11-23 02:29:44 · 10 answers · asked by GoodQuestion 6 in Pets Dogs

Thank you. Our adult male beagle is shaking, panting, and crying when he walks or is touched. It's obviously pretty serious because it's room temp in the house. I have a feeling the doc might have to be called out of holiday.

Yes, he is lethargic & did not go #2 this morning along with not eating. He's totally routine vs. our other dog concerning eating habits.

I have found out via the net that a dog's healthy temp is between 101-102.5. Our beagle does not have a temperature, thank you for your help. I'm am still calling the doc. At least I can tell him that he does not have a temperature.

what makesyou think you should take the dogs temp? Just wondering why you think hes sick? My dogs have been sick with no temps though thats why i never bothered with the temp taking id judge by if they were lethargic or diarrhea or those type things. use some vasaline if you do take the temp rectally tho! and warning, put some newspaper under the dogs butt because the temp in there sometimes makes them go

Edit: not going to the bathroom and not eating can be alot of things i thought of an obstruction in his intestines first (maybe he swallowed a part of a toy ?) Hopefully it's nothing serious. Its funny, high temps dont seem to coincide with alot of sick dogs..or at least in my experience. hope your little ones ok.

I take my dog's temp under the front leg while he's laying down, seems to work just fine. He had a fever of 103 this morning and now it's down to 101. And that's under his leg

I think the most accurate temps come from the butt... haha, never heard of a temperature being taken under the arm on a dog. Best of luck!

You get a special rectum (butt) thermometer that is made with a shorter silver strip in the front and slightly thicker glass. No you cannot measure a dogs temperature under its arm. Please rather leave this procedure to the vets. If you make a mistake your dog can have broken glass and mercury up its butt. (Mercury is poisonous)

Sorry a dog's temp is taken recatally.
If he is acting like you describe I wouldn't wait either call your vet or get to an emergancy vet/
Hope all will be ok.

Never heard of using it under the arm or in the mouth, I think that the butt is the only way to go. Sorry!
