Joesoph, I'm sorry to hear your dog is gone.
Think about what that dog's best traits were, and find a breed known for those traits. It's going to be a matter of your own opinion and involves appearance, size, temperament, and personality.

I agree with Zeussy give yourself some time to grieve and remember the wonderful times you had together before getting another dog.
So many folks just go right out and get another, almost expecting the new one to be the same as the one they lost.
You don`t want to introduce yourself to a new dog when you still haven`t recovered from losing the one you had.
The new one will sense your grief and even perhaps take advantage of it only frustrating you.
I have had and have many dogs, and I compete with them all the time.
About a year and a half ago I lost my star performer, she was so special to me and I hurt deeply.
I tried going into the performance rings way to soon with my other dogs thinking that all I had to do was just get back out there and do it and I would get over it quicker.
Well let me tell you, my other dogs sensed my grief and did things that they had never done before, like taking a dump in the competition obedience ring.
Anyway I soon got the message and just stopped for a while till I recovered enough to preform with my dogs again.
The hurt really just never goes away, you just learn to live with it.
Good luck and God Bless

I'm so sorry your dog had to go. Please don't get another one until you have had adequate time to grieve the loss of your precious pet. You need to adjust to the idea that he isn't going to be around anymore.
Getting a replacement too soon has the potential for you to reject it and not love it as much as you should. If you do, you will find yourself comparing the new dog to the other one and, usually, they just can't measure up, no matter what they do.
Wait awhile and give yourself plenty of time to look for just the right "baby" to be your companion. You will know and the pup will know when the two of you meet.

Sorry for you loss.
As far as what kind of dog it really depends opn what you want to do with it. Cockers and labs and retrievers like to fetch and play frisbee, some people like little dogs to keep around the house, I perfer Rotties or Sheperds they are very smart and are a blast to train. Whatever you decide the dog will be lucky to get an owner that loves dogs as much as you.
Good luck

you should get a different breed then you had.
Im sorry for your loss!
I was that way too after I put my dog to sleep but my mom made me wait to get another dog. I couldn't wait because i missed my dog too much.
My dog died in Feb.04 and I got my dog Dakota - March 22,2004.

I am really sorry for your loss. How about going to Humane Society and see if there is one you might click. Maybe one of them is the born-again dog of yours, waiting to spend time with you again.

Oh NO! So Sorry... What kind of dog was it? If you liked that breed, get the same kind. We don't know your taste in dogs. Me.......I have a shih-tzu and I wouldn't want a big dog because I like having her lay on my lap at night. Maybe you are fond of big dogs..we don't know. Look in the SPCA kennels and one of them will strike your fancy. Good luck.

So sorry.. try to give yourself some time to grieve. You can foster a dog from the pound while you recover enough to make an informed decision.
