I was told it was from a wound, and it could either be drained by a vet, or can pop on it's own. I would like to know how safe it is to allow it to pop on it's own, or any other information you may know about the condition as a whole.

It would be better to have the vet drain an abcess and clean it, the less time the infection is in the body the less of a chance it has to spread, get worse or drain the cats body's resources fighting it. Abcesses cause fevers and are very painful, and cats that dont feel well wont eat. Also, if it gets to large and then ruptures, it could leave quite a large open wound, which may need to by surgically closed. Ideally, your cat should be anesthetized, the abcess cut open, drained, flushed out, cleaned and a drain placed in it before suturing it back up. A heavy doseage of antibiotics would also be a good thing.

person-friendly warning signs of an abscessed wound in cats are: Painful wound equivalent to a lump Swelling heat epidermis Hair-loss In more suitable situations: Fever loss of urge for nutrition Lethargy i might take him to the vet because of the fact, while the abscess burst, a number of that an infection have been given into his device and it is the reason being is torpid. he will want some antibiotics, In case that's no longer accessible, sparkling the area reallt reliable with cleansing soap. After that prepare a sticky hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide mixed right into a gel with aloe and glycerine). The anti-bacterial area is the hydrogen peroxide – the different components are just to get it to “stick” and stay in a single place for a on a similar time as. On an open wound, it is going to sting. I’m undecided what the perfect concentration is for an abscess on a cat, yet i might start up with some million% hydrogen peroxide.) Sticky hydrogen peroxide worked large. It nevertheless took a while for the wound to heal, yet i ought to establish real away (interior an afternoon) that it grow to be going interior the perfect suited direction. The wound appeared extra desirable, particularly than worse. I utilized sticky peroxide a pair extra circumstances. (i think of I used 3% gel at that factor. Now i might use a million% rather.) as quickly as the wound has opened and drained that's important to video reveal and sparkling the wound, so as that it does not heal over with an infection interior lower back. the respond is to maintain it disinfected as much as accessible, that still will help the cat’s immune device to capture up and help therapeutic alongside.

When a cat is attacked by another cat they get abcess'. Because cats mouths and claws are full of little germs.
These bumps are painful. Think a huge fevered pimple gross i know. I would get it lanced. SOMETIMES the cat is put under sedation and they lance it shave the area and clean it up all nice. Then they would boost your lovley a antibiotic and give you some to give orally for the next few days.

If it is from a wound then it is an abscess which will require draining and antibiotics. Regardless, it sounds pretty bad and should be seen by a veterinarian!
Good luck!

Most likely an abscess. My cat has had them usually after a cat fight. A vet can drain it and give it antibiotics. Letting it erupt on its on after some time may still need antibiotics and can be messy. Or you can just give your cat (vet prescribed) antibiotics and it will dissolve over time.

Please talk to a vet asap. My beastie had a lump on his neck. We were hoping it was just an abscess, but after surgery last week, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Now it's off to the oncologist and chemo.

Don't assume it's just an abscess. Make sure.

Good luck with your kitty.
