I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both of my hands. I plan to have my hands operated on early next year. Whan meds can I take to help ease the pain. The pain is most severe when I lie down. I wake up many times throughout the night. There are nights when I don't sleep at all.

You need to take an anti-inflammatory like Motrin or Aleve. It'll help calm down the inflammation of the tendons and it'll also eleveate the pain. You can take up to four 200mg tablets of motrin four times a day OR 2 Aleve twice a day.

You should be using splints, (wrist supports), 24/7. I know they're a pain but they provide some relief.
Just an FYI-most people who have this surgery say it didn't help. I have taken care of many patients post-op, and when they come back for their check ups, and months later, they wonder why the surgery doesn't work.

See a chiropractor that's what I did and I have never had to have surgery. It took a few months, but the carpal tunnel went away.

Try to limit time on the computer. Take frequest breaks and rotate and otherwise move your wrists.
Try a heating pad over your wrists.
Get someone to massage your wrists a couple of times a day or do it yourself.

Instead of medicine why don't you try to put a brace on you when you are going to sleep. I know someone who used the brace and said it was like magic.

Ibuprofen works great and also wearing wrist splints whenever you are awake and removing them at night.
