No one did for me-which is fine-but I´m just curious if someone did something for you to make it more special.

My family is a little disfunctional so sombody who the flower company is having remain "anonymous" sent me black roses with a divorce attorney's bussiness card tucked in them.

Needless to say I was pretty livid.

His famly was awesome though. They threw us suprise party and his grandmother gave me her gorgeous pearl choker that all the women of his family have worn during their weddings. Completely unexpected (and sometimes I wonder how much those black roses had to do with it) but was just the sign of support I needed.

No, other than family and friends saying "congratulations" and "when's the wedding?" we didn't get anything. I honestly didn't expect anything either. We did get some lovely wedding gifts.

And while I know you're fine with it, I think it's just so sad that our society has gotten so materialistic that some people (not you and not all, but some) expect a gift from someone for every "special" occasion in their life, and how some people make a huge deal out of any occasion, in an attempt to make it "special." My daughter is graduating from high school this year, and my neice is receiving her bachelor's degree--those are big deals. But I've seen graduation cards/gifts for PRESCHOOL--for crying out loud. In fact, the special occasions in our lives should be few and far between, that's what makes them special. If we continue to make every single event "special" we run the risk of making the truly special events, much more ordinary. Or, we have to keep raising the bar on the special events, just to make them more special. I think this is part of the reason--not all of it, but part--why weddings are becoming so much more elaborate. We've got to do it to make it better than our high school/college graduation parties, or 16th birthday parties.

Congratulations on your engagement! When's the big day? ;-)
Have fun planning your wedding, and make it special for YOU. Best of luck to you and your fiance!

I recieved a few cards... but I think that most people hold off for the showers and the wedding itself. I recieved no gifts for the engagement announcement, I recieved a few gifts at the different showers (small gifts that I love), and then the rest flowed in at the wedding (some started coming before the wedding and the rest were given at the wedding itself)... Dont get discouraged... but I think that now-a-days most people wait to get a "big gift" than spending their money on other gifts... which can really benefit you in the long run. Good luck and congrats!

Not that I recall.

And I am thinking, you don't consider it "fine" at all, if you are asking this question this way. When you get married, try not to "pay back" everyone for not showing you enough attention or making you feel special when you got engaged.

What can possibly make you feel more special than the man you love asking you to grow old with him?

Nope. That's something that has become more popular lately.

My boyfriend's cousin is getting married next summer (and by the way, he will be a groomsman yet AGAIN -this is his 6th time being a groomsman in 2 years), and we did sent a card. I must admit that I had to force him to sign it and he said that he never heard of such thing of sending engagement cards.

Good lcuk

We received a bottle of wine from a friend the day of our engagement. Everyone else congratulated us and asked for details about the proposal and wedding plans. I didn't expect anything so the wine was a very nice surprise.

No, not really. I got a few nice e-mails, and one card from just one of my circle of girlfriends. Lots of verbal "that's great!", but no cards, flowers or gifts. Not even from the friend who sends a card for everything, or no reason at all.

We got two cards. Not a popular thing to do anymore but it really meant a lot to me that these two people took the time to send us cards.

Yes when we got engaged i was lucky to receive cards and gifts from friends and relatives...

we got extra special gifts from my fiance's parents and my own :o) it was nice to receive them but not necessary at all! we were soo happy to be engaged but it was nice for our family and friends to mark the occasion...

some of our gifts were engraved with our names and the date of our engagement which will be lovely for us to have in our home as we grow old together :o)
