About to Graduate College...?
I'll be graduating college in 2 months w/ a degree in merchandise marketing (specifically in fashion retail). Any way, my dad offered me a job @ his hospital for book keeping. He said I'll work mainly from home and it'll be a 40/hr work week. I'll make $40/hr. Is this OK for 21 yr old out of college? I've never actually had a job in my life just school, school, school...so it's all new to me. Also, I'll be wanting to rent2buy a home sometime in the near future, what's the proper/least stressful amount for a loan that I could receive? (Dallas, TX)

Thank you!!!

Yes $40 an hour is OK for someone just out of college.

I am concerned at your work at home job as there is little satisfaction in jobs that isolate you from you peers.

You will need 20% down in most home loan situations to not have to pay P/I fees which will become a real drain. Don't worry you will eventually save enough or own enough of the home to get out of that one.

Obviously the money is good - you don't need someone to tell you that. Will this be "on the books"? Because if you will be paid under the table, it will cause you many problems down the line.

There's something kind of strange about this though. Do you have some kind of bookkeeping or accounting background? Your degree doesn't sound like you would. And the salary is way too high to be reasonably for a bookkeeper. This "offer" just doesn't make sense, unless your dad is just trying to keep you at home rather than pursuing your career of choice. If that's the case, be very careful when making your decision.

And is this a private hospital that your dad owns? If not, he doesn't have the right to make that kind of offer to you or anyone else.

$40 an hour is quite good for a start. You could take up another Job if your dad permit and still do his job as a part-time @ home kinda thing.

I do agree that working in family business will hinder you the opportunity to explore the corporate world, so its best to go out and work for a few years after college and see what is your strength, and probably, you could use your experience to help your dad's with his work later on.

Hope this help!

Good to start with.
You may please be cautions that you will be working in a field, other than you are studying (or you will be qualifying).
Thus, you may start with the offer in hand and keep looking for a change, suitable to your education.
