Hehe I know what that's like. We have the automatic spray thing that sprays nice smelling perfume every 15 minutes or so. Also just clean your house regularly, VACCUUMing is very important is you have carpet and it really removes smell. Polish on furniture works well and leaves the house smelling clean. Also if they're big dogs then migrate them outside. Dogs should sleep outside, not inside with humans.

Don't bath your dog too often as this can actually make the doggy smell worse. I have those gel air freshners that absorb odours in the air..the last up to two weeks but they only cost about 79p and i also used a spray just to add a bit of extra freshness before i have visitors..i currently use the dettol one, but i think that puresse is really good as you can use it on furniture aswell..thats also a good thing..febreeze, use it on materials your dog has contact with as beleive me that can make all the difference! and make sure you hot wash your dogs bed once a week to kill off any germs which can also cause smells. Follow this advice and your home will smell lovely!

also, try and restrict your dogs movements to downstairs only cause then you have less space to get rid of smells from. People always comment our house doesn't smell even remotely 'doggy' so we must be doing something right!

I have 10 Collies - they all take turns living in the house. (We have a kennel outside too - but always have at least 3 dogs in the house each day.)
I bathe ALL of my dogs weekly. Yeah - it is a LOT of work. But this is the only way to keep them from smelling doggy.
Even after they've been bathed - they smell even worse! Ugh - they smell like wet dog even though I blow dry them. But the wet dog smell goes away after a day. Then they smell nice & clean.
Now - after I de-stink the dogs - I de-stink the house! I vacuum every day. I use carpet fresh about once a week. If you have carpets this is totally necessary cuz the carpets are gonna smell like dog - even if the dogs don't have accidents on them. You can also spray everything in the house with Febreze a couple of times a week.
If your dogs sleep in dog beds - wash those weekly too. Don't let them sleep on your furniture. Unless it is leather. You don't want the scent of dog seeping into your fabric as it's impossible to clean.
Last but not least - mop the floors. Anywhere you don't have carpet - mop at least once a week. I have a lot of wood floors - I use Murphy's oil soap on those.
On the tile - I use Clorox cleanup.
I have lots of friends over all the time and every one has asked at one time or another "Now why the heck doesn't your house smell like dog!"
All of the stuff I do is time consuming & I do work full time - but it's worth it cuz I can't stand a doggy smelling house!

Like some other answerers have suggested, get some houseplants. The green leafy type ferns are supposed to work best.
Since smells cling to fabrics make sure the dog bed is laundered often. Keep him off your sofa, chairs and bed. If you can run to the expense replace carpets with wooden flooring/vinyl. This does not harbour smells and can be wiped clean often. Keep your home well ventilated.
Dogs also benefit from good frequent grooming which will save moulting hair scattering the home.

Dont bath him too often, and for all those people who suggest you shoot him, they should be shot!

Is it his breath as opposed to body odour, what food does he have?

I find regular brushing of the dogs, and vaccuming the house, together with a doggy perfume once a week, and lighting the odd fragranced candle or using an oil burner with fragranced oil keeps the doggy smells away. Wash his bedding weekly though in a non bio washing powder.

Air fresheners in the norm are not the answer as they just mask the smell, however I have found bio air from stock nutrition to be excellent, especially if you have a cold, a lovely fresh menthol smell, and one bottle will last you six months.

Air Fresheners
Open Windows
Washing the dog
Hoovering the floors and furniture so they're free from dog hair
That's all I can think of, sorry! That's how we stop our house smelling like our dog ^_^

I saw on TV recently that certain pot plants like palms can neutralise the smell of dog. Might be worth a try, unless your dog would start peeing in the pots....

You could also put lavender into the hoover bag and spray lavender around the house. Open windows whenever you can. Confine the doggy to certain rooms only?

Hope this helps.

Think of it as the dog smelling like your house

I put on a llama woolen jacket on yesterday, and foolishly went out in a bit of rain.

My wardrobe now smells of damp sheep.

The dog is no better, and is a short-haired boxer, so a general de-smelling project is in order.

I hope that the dog just f^rted, but I doubt it

Train the dog to smell like the house

I understand how you feel. I have limited my two lhassapoo's to one room that has a tile floor.I wash that daily. I also bathe them once a week or so. Carpet floors will hold any smell. I also use the spray carpet cleaner when they do come into the rest of the house to visit. I also wash their beds weekly. My male smells the worst. not from accidents, just an smell he himself emits. I agree it is not good to bathe them daily. And in winter you cant open windows.
