Have you ever wondered why some people are born rich, healthy while others poor, handicapped, crippled or sick? Why is there such partiality in nature? Its not something carried out randomly on its own. There is a soul residing in each one of us which is immortal actually our consciousness, self-awareness is part of our soul not our body. When a person dies his soul leaves the dead body and takes a new one. Its past deeds becomes the deciding factor for the kind of life it will get in future.

A man is a spirit. He has a soul. He lives in a body. The Bible defines death as when the spirit leaves the body (James 2:25). When one who is saved dies, he sleeps in Jesus and his spirit and soul go to be with Jesus in heaven. His body created from dust will return to dust.

II Corinthians 5:6-8
"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
For we walk by faith, not by sight:
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
For Christ believers, their soul returns immediately to the Lord.
------
For non-Christan believers, their soul goes to a great gulf, like in the story of Lazarus and the rich man as in Luke 16:19-31
These souls are not judged by God the Father until after the 1000 year millenium that begins as soon as Christ returns to earth at His 2nd coming - that is the start of this new millenium - when the evil rudiments will be destroyed, as all knees shall bow at Christ's return.
God's word also states
that All souls are mine, saith the Lord.
So when you ask someone
Where did they come from?
Most automatically say
from God
This we instinctively know in our heart/thoughts.

I think this is just one manisfestation of the soul. We come in and go out of this body. When we're in it that is life. But we may be able to leave it in dreams or meditation.

what happens when you die? Well...nothing b/c you're dead. Some people try to curb their fear of death by acting like "your spirit will live on and go to heaven" - this is why death is only the #2 fear among humans, b/c people trick themselves into thinking death wont be so bad.
by the way....#1 is public speaking.....this means that at a funeral, you'd rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy.

What is the condition of the dead?
Eccl. 9:5: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”
Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts [“thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “all his thinking,” NE; “plans,” RS, NAB] do perish.”
