I need to first believe in him, then I will understand, the fact that I do not have "faith" means I cannot understand.. Is that right?

Hannah I am really trying to understand how it works, but does it really take for me to suspend all dis belief in order to believe in god? And if that is the case, would it not be incredibly easy for it to be just I giant deception?? Are those that do that not willing to believe anything?

Faith in God and in his Word, the Bible, is today at a low ebb. More than ever before are Paul’s words true that “faith is not a possession of all people.”—2 Thess. 3:2, NW.

Why do some persons have faith and others not? Some hold that faith is a gift that God arbitrarily gives or withholds. To support their position they like to quote Paul’s words at Ephesians 2:8 (NW), where he tells the Christian that he is “saved through faith; and this not owing to you, it is God’s gift.”

But note in the context that Paul is not discussing faith so much as God’s undeserved kindness, and that it is by this undeserved kindness he has made the arrangement of salvation through faith. This fact is shown by the complete verse: “By this undeserved kindness, indeed, you have been saved through faith; and this [arrangement] not owing to you, it is God’s gift.”

The kind arrangement that comes through Christ Jesus and that takes account of faith is the gift. It is through this arrangement rather than by works of the law that salvation was to come to those manifesting faith in it. So the entire arrangement for Christian salvation was by God’s undeserved kindness, and through faith in it rather than faith in works under the law are Christians saved. The divine arrangement without individual faith in it would bring no salvation to individuals. The two go together; and with the gift of everything that is embraced in Jehovah’s arrangement he also provides the means of having the necessary faith in the arrangement. The arrangement places a value on faith so that salvation results. We must use the means to get faith.

Much that passes for faith is not faith but credulity, and there is a world of difference between faith and credulity. Credulity, we are told, is “a weak or ignorant disregard of the nature or strength of the evidence upon which a belief is founded; in general, a disposition, arising from weakness or ignorance, to believe too readily, especially impossible or absurd things.” And to be credulous is to be “uncritical with regard to beliefs; easily deceived; gullible.”—Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia.

Look at some of the others on this site, they do not believe and cannot even understand simple ideas like faith. They refuse to even consider that it is they who must prove themselves to God rather than demand God proove Himself to them.

I got saved when I was 8 years old, I was sitting with my grandma in church when suddenly there was in my heart a voice in my heart telling me I needed to be Saved. My heart was racing and I was suddenly crying and I just knew that I needed to be saved. That day I ask Jesus to come into my heart and save me. I have had a joy and a peace in my heart ever since. It doesn't mean everything has been peachy but it does mean I lay down at night knowing where I am going when I die without a doubt. When I got saved Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to live in my heart and it has protected me many times, it is a small still voice that will guide you if you will listen. Now everybody's salvation experience canbe different, I have a friend who said he heard angels singing, I have seen people start sweating and they had a burning in their heart and they just knew that they had to be saved. Have you ever had an experience that you knew was divine? Have you ever had a time when you felt something calling you but you refused? The Bible says he wants all to be Saved. But you are the one who has to step out and make that decision. Jesus died for our sins on that Cross. Do you believe that? Do you believe he arose from the grave? If you believe all you like is confessing your sins to him and you can be saved, here is a sinners prayer, just pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you made a decision for Christ or have any questions, Please send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

Well Birdy, answer me this. Do you really try to understand? Or do you stand and mock? Those who are Truth Seekers will understand. But those who really can't give a hoot will probably never understand.

Yes, first you must believe in Him, but if you do not understand who you are, you will never understand the words.

In reference to traditional religions, you've about got it right. Blind faith is required, and thou shalt not use your mind to study 'flaws' in the religion, or other spiritual ideas.

No, Birdy, it means that you haven't been brainwashed yet. They have to actually brainwash you for the mind control faith drug to work.
Which is precisely why I call these people faithheads. They're a lot like crackheads, except that it's not a chemical dependence--it's an acceptance and abolition of thought dependence.

Matthew 16:17

And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, simon Barjona: for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, buy my Father which is in heaven

Its not our job to convice you that Jesus is God. Thats the Fathers job, our part is to share the simple message of the gospel.

Read your bible and ask God to help you believe, your faith has to start somewhere so don't worry. Keep taking in God' word and asking for his help (genuinely) and he will show you things and will increase your faith.

God bless

If you don't have faith you haven't really opened yourself up to God. I can recommend it...
