in the uk its far too easy to get out of working i know someone who gets long term sick pay for depression due to being called a lesbian at her last job she is by the way a lesbian and hasnt worked for 6 years there are the overweight the spotty the hairy women all manner of people claiming benefit who are just lazy so and so's who need to get off of their backsides and work then there would be more money to spare for the genuine ones and the elderly who have supported this country in the past

Well, I agree to a certain extent. There are only so many jobs in the job market (at least this is true where I live) and if everyone worked and no one stayed home with their children, the possibilities of getting a job would almost be none existent for some people. Now, I do think everyone should attempt higher education, whether they think they will use it or not because knowledge is power anad can be used anytime, not just in employment.

Able bodied people who can work should work instead of collecting welfare but we, as a society, need to help them learn skills so that they can get a job that will pay their rent, bills, food and daycare. Minimum wage at a fast food restaurant won't even pay the average studio apartment's rent in most cities, let alone someone's bills or even their groceries. I don't want to see welfare gone because it does help people who can't help themselves but some changes do need to be made.

I think Indya is right to a certain extent...except that she doesn't consider people who stay home with their children to be "working". I am a SAHM and I work harder than I ever did at any job I ever had. Although I do not earn a paycheck, I certainly contribute to my family.

I agree with you to certain point...I'd like to add the following:
people with disabilities often see their life as a challenge and they don't really want to be "helped". Truth of the matter is: society has to create safe environments in which handicapped people could earn money for living...

If food was free no one would work. Work is for saps and anyone who can escape from the drudgery that puts the coin into the wealthy's pocket should be applauded not scorned. The slave mentality of "We all must work, it's the right thing to do!" disgusts me. Lick the chains ya dogs, lick your chains! No wonder wealthy people hate the plebs so much.

if you are rich or self sufficient you dont have to work.
if you are physically able you should work not welfare cause your a lazy a**
in america we have a disablity law that helps, and the social security thing. they should be supplied with basic necessities, not lincolns and mansions and maids though
