I am 44 and met a lovely english guy 6 months ago. my best friend dosen't like him just because he's english. i have been friends with her for 12 years and usually trust her judgement. However she is always rude to him because she hates the english. Do i give him up for her.? my fella wants to finish it unless i sort her out? what do i do?

If the only reason she does not like him is because he's english, then no.

I would think about this very carefully - you can't change your friends opinions and you're running out of time before your boyfriend leaves you. 'met a lovely english guy', 'she is always rude to him' and 'usually trust' all tell me three things - 1) You really like this guy and want to be with him, 2) she's an arrogant woman and 3) you are unsure whether to trust her. She hasn't got any actually reason to hate him - she shouldn't be as plain stupid as to not like someone just because of their nationality. He's person inside and nationality doesn't affect that. Say I hated Americans (I hate to generalise but I feel like now is a good a time as any) and met a really nice American guy - it would change my view on Americans altogether. Tell her to get over herself and realise him for what he is - a really nice guy.

Your older enough to know that your friend should accept whoever your dating and if she can't accept something that makes you happy, then she isn't a very good friend even if it has been 12 years. Just like the saying 'Guys shouldn't come before friendship' in this case 'Friends shouldn't destroy a loving relationship' x x

Ignore her, you have your own judgements on what feels right. You don't need your friend to tell you what you should or shouldn't do.

GASP
what a *****
what reason has she got to hate the bestest country on earth ey lol
Tell her He's English SO what
Just because you've know her for Long doesn't mean she can rule over your life
Make your own decision with this one
You like him right, so that's all that matters

don't let her crappy judgement interfere with your relationship

Hell no, the reason I fell out with my ex friend was because her and someone else were deliberately making nasty remarks about my boyfriend. Theres a time and a place for childishness. I just think its either insecurity, predjudice, jealousy and also that they cant wish a friend happiness. That shows the kind of person they are.

Depends on the situation. In your case. No. It's not the appropriate reason for not liking him. You might want to talk to your friend about it. Talk to her about it, and try to convince her to give him a chance. At least get to know him better first..etc..And not judge him JUST because he's english

NO! but do be aware that people on the outside see our relationships better than we do ourselves. She could be using being English as an excuse to say that she doesnt think hes good for u! who knows!

If it IS coz shes English.. send her my way & I'll kick her head in! lol joke x

Keep then separate in your life!

If he is the one for you, she will have to get used to it and move on in her attitudes.

If he isn't, why loose a friend of 12 years?

The husband of one of my friends makes me want to barf, but I just keep as far away from spending time around him as possible.

no. if you like him and she doesn't that's her problem. tell her that English people probably dont like her either! she sounds jealous. tell her to be mature and stop acting like a brat. if she cant be polite to him then dont see them together. if she doesn't like the fact that you aren't spending time with her because you are with your man then tell her she should have thought about that when she was acting like a child!
