Money (earn alot)

Respected (it is a professional career)

Clever (every1 think of them who have brilliant brain)

Angel (saving life)

Parents would love their children to become doctors rather than other profession, this is because only people with good brain can become a doctor, and your parents will be so proud that they have raised a doctor! Yet, for me, there are many other better career for you out there. U must love the career that you choose, coz you are going to do it for the rest of your life.

I was once, wanna be a doctor, then after I get to know the life of a doctor, I felt unsuitable for me, coz I hate it, I wanna be 1 just because of my parents' wishes. Then I took up something I really like, and now, I have no regrets of making this choice. I'm a Law Student, and will finish my study by next year. I was a Biology student, but it is no point doing something that you don't like just because you wanna fulfill other's dreams.

Good Luck and make a right decision for yourself.

If it doesn't come from within you I don't think you should be a doctor.

I know for a fact that if I was trying to go into this career for the money or what other people think of me, there is no way I could ever put myself through all the hard times that come from working this hard on a goal (years of school, problems with my family because I never have time for them, tons of loans by the time I graduate, always studying with no real break or vacation because you have to be the best in terms of your grades, etc.). Now that I am in medical school I see people dropping like flies, especially the first few months, because it gets harder and mostly not the coursework itself but the lifestyle of having no life and those that actually have a life aren't cutting it with their grades. Lucky for me that I have personal reasons for wanting to be a doctor. I like to volunteer helping out poor and homeless people so I want to be a doctor so that when I volunteer I can do so much more for them if I am a "healer". This is the only thing that gets me through the tough times is knowing that there is more to my medical school education than wanting to be a doctor as my future job because there is no way I would put myself and family through this if it were just for that. The money is not that great anyways. You can make a lot more going into business or real estate.

Plus as a patient I would feel better knowing my doctor has a passion for healing and doesn't just see it as a job or something they got pressured into.

Good answers above.
I especially relate to the answer from "me".
I retired early from cancer medicine though I did love helping the people. It was not compatible with having a life, seeing my family, doing other things.
"me" is correct that not all doctors make large amounts of money. I figured I made about $20 and hour - the hours were many, so I made out OK.
Depends what medical field you go into - the hours, the money, the tedium. I often wonder about cardiac surgeons doing the same bypass procedure day after day like an assembly line. Such talent. Such long training. Repeating
the same thing over and over. They must love it.
I suppose surgeons look at oncologists and say "How can you explain breast cancer day after day?" No career is perfect.
If you decide on medicine, you'd best be dedicated for the time your are in it. There is no room for slackness - no allowance for mistakes. You cut no corners no matter how tired you are. I never had a malpractice suit in my 20 years, but I sure thought about it and made every effort to make sure there were no mistakes from lack of diligence. Everything you think and do had better be documented carefully. Every patient is someone's family member. I always figured they were my family. If you chose a field with life threatening illnesses like cancer and leukemia, there is some pressure involved. My dad had suggested I chose dermatology where patients rarely die from their diseases.
It's your life - and your are offering up a big chunk of it if you go into medicine. Best of Luck!

usually people want to be a doctor to earn money or for the social status it offers.but it really really requires a great strenght of mind and humanity to be a good doctor.it may seems a bed of roses wid great carriar and money but one has to study really hard to get a chance to be a doctor and even harder to make a name in the field.one also must have a urge to do for the society and the poor and ability to feel the pain of others.if u think u have this go ahead or otherwise dont listen to ur family..the journey of a doctor is really long and if ur heart dont agree then dont do it.

The study as well as practice of medicine demands a lot of dedication, hardwork and sacrifice. Only those students who are very much interested in the field should opt for it, otherwise even if you get into the profession your performance will be below average. I know this since I am myself a doctor and teach medical students. Entering this profession for the sake of money is foolish because you can earn much more money by the same amount of hardwork in other professions. Try to convince your parents. Show them my post and ask them to contact me if they want.

I think you need to do what you want. Becoming a doctor is very hard work and costs a lot of money. Yes, you may make money afterwards, but only once your student loans are paid and you develop a good reputation. It is too much money and time to waste unless it is something you REALLY want.

take this answer from a Dr who practiced for 29 years... Medicine like everything else, can make a lot of money and can make you poor, it is not true that all Drs make a lot of money.. I myself cannot complain of being poor, but I do not make a lot of money, i make enough to survive, because I chose this way.. but let me tell you something I am very happy not for being a Dr like some people say, but because I love it.. medicine is sometime hard, when you work in the middle of the night, when you deal with people dying and sickness, with blood and other things that are hard to deal with .. the big secret is DO WHAT YOU LIKE< AND WHAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD .... i know a lot of rich miserable Drs, who are doing nothing but waiting to retire because they hate it.. your work is a place where you spend most of your day.. and many week ends, and nights.. you will miss events that are important in your life, you will have may be money but no time to spend it, you will have to smile to people and patients when you are tired, and dying from exhaustion, you will miss your meals because you cannot refuse to treat a person in pain because it is lunch time... but if you love it you will sweat and still be happy...medicine is compassion and you have to love it (this applies to other professions too.. good luck

doctors make a lot of money. prestigious title too. to have a doctor in your family is probably a big thing. you make a lot of money one, and you also get to say i am dr. such and such. lol. but the course load and aggreviation to be a doctor is a pain in the butt. it costs so much, and takes away from your social life to be a doctor. i was biology/pre-med and i hated it. crappy college professors already, especially in biology, and took away from my time crafting, drawing, painting, sewing, designing, etc. so its up to you. go with your heart, be what you want. not what others want you to be. do you!!!
