As I get more deeply into Judaism, I've learned that the Torah is a very poor history book. That doesn't mean nothing in it is true historically, but not everything has to have happened the way it is described.
The stories in the Torah are meant to teach deep spiritual lessons. Some of the language has multiple meanings so that it can be taken in a completely different way. Noah's ark is one of these passages. I won't explain the other meaning. It is understood by those who know Hebrew and won't be believed by those who don't.
If people want to fight about what kind of red soup Esau gave up his heritage for, that's fine. But the passage is about the Esau in all of us that gives up our relationship to G-d for something that temporarily satisfies us in this world.
If you could read the Torah in the Hebrew, you would find it is anything but primative. I'd say the people rushing into Walmart early this morning are much more primative than those who had such a close relationship with G-d.

I have never laughted so hard in all my life.
We could say all that and ufo's. Stars falling from heaven. No age for earth.
Flying chariots. As some say the earth in 6 days [ not ]. Unusual beast rising up out of the sea having all sorts of shapes. A woman clothed with the sun and the moon at her feet. A richly dressed harlot on a scarlet colored beast. Unusual dreams. Unusual statutes explained. Three men in a firey furnace and then four. Daniel coming out of the lions den alive.
When all of these thing are learned and not thought of in this manner, but what they mean is known, it is not thought of as you explained it, so it is
as I said above, I never laughted so hard in all my life. You turned me into a newcomer and I saw what you saw. Now if you ever learn to see it as I do, do not ever forget this as I had. What an experience!
If you can figure out the begats, Gen.5:1-32; Gen.11:1-32; are you equal with these you think are primitive? If you can figure out how much time the Judges served to Samuel, are you equal with then. Now the kings of Judah as that is the genealogy of Jesus Matt.1:1-17;
This is really walking a mile in their shoes. Heb.11:1-40; Those that really tried.
Will you ever think, "these guys are smart", could they have done it any other way?
I love to summarize it, but no one else really knows any more what I did than what the bible writers did.
Edit:
Birdy,
You said try to see where you are coming from, so I really did. I explained.
Some Nut above then ask, am I 12 years old? I am age 71 and have studied
the bible 44 years. The Gen.3:1-5 [ talking serpent ], an angel as a ventriloquist, uses the animal. Eze.28:13-15; The cherub angel anointed over
Eden was perfect, then turned rebel and resister of God. The results is that
we are born dying and it could all have been wiped out, but Jesus intends to
save the offsprings of Adam [ Matt.4:1-11; he faced Satan, Rev,12:9; all these
names identify Satan ]; 1Cor.15:22-28; As in Adam all die, even so in Christ
shall all be made alive.
There is info to show how the ark held 2 of every animal and 7 each domestic
for food.
The bush Moses saw was and angle making the bush glow in flames to get his attention. YES. Jesus was from a virgin birth by the creator of birth and each intended birth has the spirit from God as its life, so trust God as he knew how to do it and the genealogy of Jesus Matt.1:1-17; cover a lot of time and is not the age of the earth. So does the Empires of the world cover alot of time.
I do remember what it was like to piece together all this info, and see that if it came right out and said it, as what it is, we would not have the book. I have
had 44 years pleasure learning it.

Quite so - which is why most people get sucked into it all as children.
You have to wonder at the mental processes involved in adults who convert, though. What kind of disbelief suspenders must they be wearing? I can understand someone suffering severe weltschmerz and turning to the supernatural in desperation - but Christianity looks like a bad acid flashback when laid out like this.
Remarkable, and very frightening.

i´ll leave theologians to answer deep and theologically correct..
I will tell you how I see it and why I believe it -just in short : because when I look around , everything is a miracle and a supernatural beauty - conception, birth, sunrise, our blue bubble Earth hanging in there so beautifully..
I know you can give me zillion of definitions and explanations to why things are that way, supported by zillion scientific "proofs" - but that doesn´t make it less impossible and less miraculous and supernatural. Coz, I can´t SEE the Earth is round, I just believe what I saw on documentaries. I believe what the scientists discovered. And it´s beautiful.
Why would believing in ressurection, walking on water, healing from cancer or sth else ( I have seen ppl being healed, not walking on water - yet :)) be more impossible than living on a fast spinning blue dot in space called Earth?
Cheers, mate!

Ok, then, maybe by your standards I'm not a "right-thinking" person. So, who elected you as the Judge of what is right and wrong thinking? Look, if you don't want to believe, or have no faith, then fine. But those of us who do have faith -and try to see where we're coming from-can't understand how it is to be without faith, or hope for a life after this one.

I don't believe all of it is true, some of it does seem like a fairytale but I do feel that there is something out there watching over us. I just don't know for sure who/what that is exactly. I have only had two instances though that made me know/feel that there was something there helping me, so whoever it is must be busy.

I'm standing by in the hope that there will be a credible answer from 'them' but I won't be letting my coffee get cold.
True answer is that they are all suffering from being indoctrinated as impressionable young children. Shame on their parents.
So far, two freaks have responded. Credibility? Down the drain, as usual.
Is that Five now ? - and none have come up with anything that is other than the usual spraypaint.

You Plead atheism without evidence!
It would not work! No thing is created without a creator.
Your beloved science is still in its infancy and cannot prove non-existance of God rather it believe in Supernature? What is it??
The believers have strong evidence:
Knowledge of God is engrained in human soul! Hnce no one can deny the existance of God. Mankind is wondering in search of the creator since long long time. Like every atheiest post this Q again & again!
The main difference is not in the existance but it is in the imagination of God which created thousands of gods & goddess for certain societies.
There are only two types of God - The real God - the creator and the Imaginary gods which were created in search of real God!
The real God is beyond our 5 senses - we can't see or touch him hence some additional source, contact or guidance is required to understand a non-material being - the supernatural!
The required contact was provided by the God Himself to humanity through some chosen personalities called Prophet of God.
According to human history some 124,000 prophets came to guide the humanity.
These 124,000 Witnesses ( prophets duly supported with miracles ) are the undeniable evidance of the existance of real God!
The stories you have mentioned about Virgin birth, Novah Boat and Moses's Bushes are memories of the miracles seen by living humans. Hence cannot be removed by the believers. These memories refers to some miracles.
Atheist need to understand human history otherwise they will have to start it again!
Have your own search and enjoy

And then they compound their silliness by calling atheists brainwashed, despite the fact that theists had to be told what to believe, but most of us atheists were brought up with a religion and came to our own conclusions. Theistic doublethink!

being a believer in Jesus Christ ,[GOD] is like flying a kite [i know, it sounds stupid but listen] have you ever had a kite to go so high you could not see it ? well i did and a man saw me standing there and asked me what was i doing ? my reply, i'am flying a kite ! the man looking upward and seeing no kite [only some string spiraling upward] then said, i can't see a kite how do you know it's there ? and i replied, I CAN FEEL IT TUGGING! ] if we listen to our heart, we can find the truth !
