Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, or backbone. The bones that make up the spine are called the vertebrae. The degree of scoliosis ranges from mild to severe. Patients with milder curves may only need to visit their doctor for periodic observation. Persons with more severe scoliosis may require treatment. Dextroscoliosis is simply a term referring to scoliosis in which the primary curve is to the right, when viewed from behind. The most common curve pattern is right thoracic, left lumbar. Some curves are managed with surgery, such as Harrinton rods, to straighten the spine while some can be managed by toning the muscles with physiotherapy so they pull harder against the curve, this can be done to prevent further curvature developing or slow the development , and in some instances, correct the problem altogether. However, that tends to be in children when the curve is not so pronounced and growth can combat some of the symptoms. Treatments can also include breathing exercises , electrical stimulation, casts and skin care.

This again depends on the severity of the scoliosis. The dextro simply means the bend is to the right side.

Often bracing and sometimes fusion of the spine is used to treat things or stop them getting worse.
