Well you're obviously feeding him something poor in nutrition or he wouldn't still be hungry - what are you feeding him? Another thing could be a tapeworm. It gets into the cats stomach and feeds on its food - so your cat will remain hungry.
FYI - all those things you mentioned could make a cat very sick so please allow your cat access to human foods OR dog food.

Some cats are just that way. You wrote two meals a day, I take it your talking can food. Stop that right away and get him on dry food and have the food available 24/7. Snacking on other foods probably won't hurt him, might make him fat, just be careful what they get in to, things like onions are no good for cats. I have a cat that will kill for potato chips.

Merlin is adventerous, I would have your vet check Merlin for worms, etc. If he does have them you definately want to get rid of them. I really don't think any of those foods will hurt him if he snitches a bite. But I feed my girls dry food that is always available to them, they nibble when they want to. I am thinking Merlin at 6 months is curious about everything and food is part of his world. Different cats I have had developed strange tastes - they would sneak a bite of melted nacho cheese, oatmeal, pork chops, all sorts of things - one even asked for a piece of popcorn - an unattended plate in front of the tv was fair game. And the cats get into the dog food and the dog gets into cat food, I do my best to direct them to their own, but nobody has gotten sick yet. lol

my cat was exactly the same! (he has went missing :( )
But yes dont worry its normal the reason he may like dog food is because it isnt all mashed up its quite thick cat food is in smaller chunks thats why some dogs like it.
Where did you get him? He may have been a stray if so they eat anything! Dont worry it wont hurt him in anyway aslong you dont feed him to much :)

It's not healthy for a cat to eat that stuff. Keep other food away from him.

maybe its the food your trying to feed it. Maybe it's getting bored with what your feeding it, you should probably try feeding it different meals each night. I did it with my dog who always bugs and it's because of the food it got bored and wanted a change.
don't be afraid of a change, you never no the new food might give your cat more energy!!!!!!!!!!!!
