Interesting question... Yet the issue is possibly much deeper than on the surface. First, humans sacrifice like gangbusters whether or not the Son of God had been sent into the realm of human sacrifice.
A key - this is a realm of human sacrifice. One cannot enter the human realm and not be affected by the reality of human sacrifice, i.e. put oneself at risk of being sacrificed. This would not be any atmosphere created by God, as man is of free will.
In Old Testament times, sacrifice of animals was required to cleanse sin, e.g. a lamb. The Son of God was sent as a lamb into the realm of human sacrifice. Humans sacrificed the lamb, and his blood cleansed all sins. Hence, the 'Lamb of God.' Following that, sacrifice of animals is not needed to cleanse sin.
As an added view, if adults utilize matches as tools, does it make sense to allow children to use matches?
I enjoyed your question. Cheers!

In the Old Testamenet only a flawless animal could be used as a sacrifice.
Jesus became the perfect flawless, withou sin, sacrifice and took our place to die on the Cross.
Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.?
The bible says that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. In the Old Testament (Covenant), the Jewish nation sacrified a calf and shed its blood for the forgiveness of their sins. Since the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70AD, current Jews do not make blood sacrifices for their sins as commanded by G-d. How do Jews now get forgiveness of their sins without following this important law of G-d.
When Jesus Christ died on the cross, his blood was the final sacrifice for our sins once and for all. He was the final sacrificial lamb of God. Isaiah 53.
The fact that Jesus died in our place and shed His blood, we don't have to rely on The High Priest to once a year kill and goat (without blemish) and after the animal was slauthered in the outer court and the blood sprinkled, then only could the High Priest entered into the Holy of Holies. If there was any sin in his life he would die immediately. The High Priest wore a gown and at the hem there was a pomagranant and a bell. So when the people outside the tabernacle could still hear the bell, then they knew that the High Priest was still alive.
Now, we don't have to do this ritual but we have our High Priest, Jesus Christ who became our final sacrifice. We have access to the Holy of Holies.

Maybe that was the last human sacrifice to end all human sacrifices. God could have used anyone, but he sent his only son, to be sacrificed, so that all are saved, and no more human sacrifice is ever required.

God, above all, is LEGALand fair.
Even thugh He sets the rules, He sticks by them.
You need to know WHY Jesus paid the price with hidsrecious human life.
A perfect man [ Adam] lost us the right to live without death. Genesis 2; 16,17
It would take ANOTHER perfect man to buy it back for us.
Jesus.
God supplied his own son to us for that purpose.
No other man on earth qualified.
Also it is important to know that Jesus had a pre-human life in heaven.
Proverbs 8; 22-31.
(John 1:2) This one was in [the] beginning with God.
Jesus was ALONGSIDE his father.

Actually, He sent God, in the flesh, to die for the sins of the world.
He did it because He loved you, and only Jesus could bear the weight of the corporate sin of the whole Human Race. God accepted His sacrifice, bearing witness by raising Him from the dead.
This is the Gospel. "Gospel" means "Good News"
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
II Corinthians 5:17-21

if you are talking about Jesus, then that is not quite the case. Yes he was fully man, but he was also fully God too. there need to be the ultimate sacrifice so save us all. You also need to look at it like this. At the time they were not Sacrificing him they were giving him the Roman death penalty. He also did not stay dead he came back to life three days later.

Jesus is God in a human's body. He did the ultimate sacrifice to show people that He is Lord and died on the cross for our sins.

Isn't there some story in the bible about God telling some guy to go sacrifice his son on a mountain or something along those lines? In the story God stopped it in time and the son wasn't sacrifced but maybe that put the idea into their heads? Some Christians aren't the brightest of people you know.

Nicolette -
You know yourself that people cannot die for the atonement for another persons sins just like Moses could not atone for the sins of the Jews, because a sinning person must pay for his own sins, with what will he pay? Even unto this law - "The soul that sinneth, it shall die". Each person that sins will atone for himself by death.
Christians and Jews know that the state of this world is a shifting turbulence between Good AND evil which is present in ALL things. And so even now, as we HAVE sin, we are in this state of decay and dying from the moment we are born.
This can be seen proven within mathematics - there is an internal struggle of good/evil - it is a somethingness/anti-somethingness. and this is PARADOX. But there is something of vital importance upon which the Truth of Christianity and Judaism hinge - that this state of PARADOX, is NOT in fact a TRUTH, it is indeterminate, an anomaly - if it were one or the other it would be a solid TRUTH, but it is neither, as they cancel eachother out meaning that what exists does not exist.
Why do you see so many Mathematicians becoming Christians?
Because realize the reality of this Paradox, Truth can only be ONE but NOT BOTH and THIS comes THROUGH BELIEF. Truth lies IN THIS WORLD in the IDEAL not reality.
In Christianity, you have to understand that it is a very deep religion. And just like the nature of Truth it portrays itself in words and pictures or metaphors because like a painting it appeals to the depths and essence of a person - even so, Jesus said, I speak in PARABLES, that the knowing will know, and the unknowing will not - it is hidden mystery that is revealed by the Truth that is within.
Jews and Christians both want to do good, but the critical difference between those two is that Jews believe that IN THIS WORLD - this state of evil CAN be overcome by us - PERMANENTLY. Christians believe that the state of evil CANNOT be overcome by us, that we are innately born into the state of Good and Evil, that we need something not of ourselves to pull us out of this state into the PERMANENT state of GOOD. This aligns with Mathematics - a SOLID non-conflicting TRUTH.
Just as we are metaphorical expressions of deeper Truths, so we manifest the qualities of Good/evil.
And when Jesus died, he was NOT of the same good/evil nature because he IS God. A God of EXISTENCE of LIFE - not PARADOX!
And why is He God? Just like the purpose of Expression, it was to express the TRUTH OF HIS LOVE - that it will be HE who will take sin from US, HE will atone for US, and HE will die that death so that WE will live - because He loves us - and we who love back, BELIEVE and TRUST in HIS Power not OURS .- We come to LOVE through LOVE - The only mathematical answer towards existence - FAITH in LOVE
