what do you atheists think happens to us after we die? im purely curious

Nothing happens. Your body decomposes or gets burned to ashes. I think this is why being dead is not frightening for atheists, as there is no heaven or hell to worry about.
Dying, however, is a concern, because none of us wants pain or suffering, and most of the time the process of dying involves that. Hopefully the process will be short and the pleasure you've had and given while you are alive more than makes up for it.

Before we were born, our conciousness did not exist in the past or the present. When we were born we existed in the present and the future. When we live our lives we exist in the past the present and the future. When we die our conciousness ceasts to exist in the present and the future and only exists in the past, a place that is inaccesible. Our fragile body exists until it decays, and at some point this no longer exists in the present and the future, and only in the past.

The same thing that happens when you squish a bug or overwater a plant- we die, we rot, we cease to exist. End of story. Believing in an afterlife in heaven/hell/whatever is merely a fear of not existing anymore.

Atheists have a wide variety of beliefs as to what happens after death. The majority of responders on this site believe that after death you cease to exist.
As for myself, I am not sure. I used to lean towards a materialistic existence, such as we exist only while we are biologically functional.

Its the same as before we were born, before you were born you were dead and thats was fine, and it will be the same when we die.
