Ok, I was in the hospital for the first time in my life (besides having my son) three months ago... I went to the ER because my side was killing me and I had a really high fever. They gave me a cat scan and ran a million tests and come to find out they said I had sepsis really bad... i'm only twenty two and they said it was so unusual that a person my age would have that much bacteria in my blood and that its usually only that high in older patients. So they then diagnosed me with Toxic Shock Syndrome... so I have avoided tampons ever since of course. But here lately my side is hurting agian and at least once a day i'm saying that I don't feel good... can this stuff come back? Also, can you make it worse from drinking alcohol? I only go out maybe like once every couple months but I don't want this stuff to come back. Thanks for your help!

Sepsis can certainly come back, or be reintroduced. It's a bacterial infection and bacterea is virtually everywhere.

I'm sure you know sepsis is deadly since you've already fought it. And you sense that alcohol might not be good or you wouldn't have included it in your question. Alcohol throttles the human body in several ways and you should probably avoid it until you have been nonseptic for several years.

See your doc, asap, in my opinion and you might ask him to have your imune system checked this time.

It is unusually for someone your age to become septic. Usually younger people have stronger immune systems that are able to fight infection well enough to prevent this. If you are noticing that some of the same symptoms you had before are coming back, you may need to tell your doctor.

Why was your side hurting? Was something there possibly the source of the sepsis?

Drinking alcohol in moderation should not affect this problem at all.

yes it can come back ..Did you take all of your medication and follow up with a Dr after for another test to see how your blood was?.If not I would do that asap. It could be that the medication did not clear up the bacteria completely. I think that alcohol does effect the medication and does not allow it to work properly..Please go back to the doctor asap to get checked..My grandfather died as a result of sepsis . He found out to late he had it and the medication was not effective. This is very serious. When you have it the bacteria is running through out your entire body. You have to diligent in this treatment..again please go asap just to be sure you are healthy and the bacteria is gone.
