I was watching Dale the Movie a few days ago and the ending got me wondering if Dale Earnhardt would have won the race if the caution didnt come out, the only reason im wondering this is cause so much had happened to him on the final few laps on almost every race he was contending for the win, So would it be another last lap pass or would he hold them off?
Im just curious as to what you guys think, Im not trying to say he wouldnt have won

I don't think he's referring to the race where he was killed, I think he's referring to the 500 that Dale Sr. won.

You never know at those plate tracks. "Holding somebody off" takes on a whole new meaning at Daytona and Talladega.

I believe so. If you watch it, he had a lapped car that he used as a pick (blocker). He would have been able to get a lead on the pack coming out of turn 2 on the final lap. That is to say that he doesn't run over a chicken bone and blow his tire or a seagull flys into him.

Without question, 1998 was just his year to win it! 20 years of trying and on the 50th ann. year for NA$CAR, a movie couldnt even have been written better!

no, he wasnt going for the win. The reason he wrecked was because he was blocking (he came down on Sterling Marlin ) for his son and Michael and unfortunately he died doing it.
