Drinking too much alcohol gets you drunk -- you did it.
Driving recklessly is an invitation to an accident, if it happens it is what you did by not being reasonable.
AIDS primarily comes from living a life with several sexual partners, and from unprotected sex, with heterosexual as well as homosexual partners -- again it is behavior that you do which exposes a person to unreasonable risks.
These risks in regard to drunkenness, reckless driving, and non monogamous sex would have been avoided by the Christian because of his/her WAY of life. We count this a blessing from God that we are thus taught what is safe and what is reasonable.
So, while you may not say that it is God's direct punishment, it is seen that the Christian who has been raised Christian from birth is protected from these evils and many more.
What you view it as is according to your own philosophy. It sure seems to be a person's own risk-taking that is revisited on that person.

Eh.. It's easy to trivialize that argument. But: (be forewarned, the following is based on an unsubstantiated rumor that I myself have not verified) some say that AIDS got to man due to a guy having gay sex with a monkey. In a way, even from a "Spinoza's God" Pantheist Atheist perspective, that's sort of a divine punishment for being really messed up in the head. I'll say this very clearly so everyone follows. Thumbs down commence. People should not have sex with animals. Never should this be permissible. Even should an animal figure out a way to give consent--it is still morally reprehensible. Shower me with thumbs down.
So in a way, if this silly rumor is true, even being an Atheist, I have to say that nature really did teach us a lesson about having sex with monkeys. We shouldn't do it. End of story.

Wow, so now you are a believer? :)
No, AIDS is from a virus that came (probably) out of Africa. It is an opportunistic, behavior-affected disease (knowingly and unknowingly). Cutting down on the behaviors that cause infection will reduce infection--that's just common sense and good public health. The fact that it fits in with some doctrines of faith makes sense, though.

Why would anyone want to punish so many people, especially women and children in Africa? What did they do to disobey his will? Maybe they don't even know what his will is.

It's an unfortuanate disease that most people have lost someone to. It is not a punishment. If it is, kindly direct me to who is being punished with cancer, heart disease, you name it.
