My cat had kittens last year (she has since been neutered) my problem is, she keeps bringing in live mice and letting them go!! - Our 6 month old Cavalier king charles spaniel pup has a really good sense of smell and has been whinning by the hoover all morning - we lifted it up and suddenly, two mice popped out - she then shot in front of me and swallowed both of them!!! OMG, I don't think either was dead? - my question is - will she be okay? - will they still be alive and would they bite her? - poor little things!

Fozzed: I think she initially started it to teach her kittens to hunt? (not sure though) - I have two cats and they usually stay in all night - The bigger male - brings in rats (huge ones) but at least they are dead!!

This is not really a problem, your cat will be doing a combination of teaching her kittens, and bringing you a gift, your dog just needs a worming tablet from the vet, as you can practically be sure that the mice will have worms that will now have been passed to your dog.

Cats bring in mice and rats as a present for you - it sounds disgusting but most owners find the rodents on door steps etc - cats love to reward there owners with presents - and giving you their prey is a present! they cant run down the shops and get a bunch of flowers hahaha!!!!!!!

I think your cat that catches mice is trying to show you and her kittens that she can hunt - but in all the excitement of catching the mice she has forgotten to kill them!!!!

She will be fine if she has swollowed them! the mice would be killed instantly as they enter the stomach as the acid would kill them!!!!

she should be fine. my dobermann once caught and swallowed a rabbit whole when we were walking in the woods (poor rabbit) im sure the mice would die of shock before they could bite her by the time they get to her stomach they would have suffocated even if they didnt die of shock right away.
it sounds like shes going to be fine, the mice will be digested in the normal way.

Mine bring home huge bugs or mice with the heads eaten off them. They're gifts for us from them in their minds. When they're still alive I think they want us to watch the hunt and kill to prove themselves to us.either that or they were tired and are just saving them for later.

thats pretty normal behaviour for a cat, what suprises me is that it let them live, they usualy kill them b 4 bringing them home,i think your dog will be fine ours eat anything from scirting boards to flies n spiders.

She'll be fine, dogs can eat mice.
It's true that they can sometimes get tapeworm from eating wild rodents (so can cats) but these should be caught and treated at their annual exam and vaccinations.

The title made me look...and ew, that is gross. She did a good thing, getting rid of those rodents, but I hope she's had her rabies shot. The dog will be just fine...it shouldn't hurt it to swallow those while they are alive. :) They were probably suffocating so fast they didn't care about biting. Good luck!
