Yeah, the Fender Strat is the ultimate. however, for those with limited means, Fender do the Squier range, which is a lot less costly. A few years ago, our daughter wanted an electric guitar, and she desperately wanted a Fender. We bought her a Squier kit (guitar and amp) which was ata price we could afford, and it's a good guitar. hope this helps.

Well, you could get a Fender Strat for around $400 too. They do have lower priced models of the same guitar.
Or you could also try an Ibanez guitar too. They have some cool models for around $300-$400. Go to www.music123.com look at the other lower priced models. They have lots of other guitar brands too in that price range.
Good luck

interestingly enough the fender stratocaster can easily be substituted. even more intrestingly it can be substituted by squire. ill tell you its hard and you will have to travel around the area but sometimes you can find a squire that is as good as a fender. you have to play it to find out.
the thing that makes squire diferent then fender is the fact that fender is for higher level players and squire is for lower lever begginer players. the funny thing is is that sometimes you can find one that plays as well as a fender but is still a squire. note the fact that it is very hard to find but it can be found.
the other thing you can do is research different brands. brands like Ibanez and Schecter sometimes have guitars that are very similar.
if you want to stay in under 1k, you can easily find a good ibanez that is that same type of thing. if you know how to talk and stuff you can get one that normally costs 1500 for 900. i do that all the time. its all about how you talk. my Ibanez is a custom and the last one of that base model to ever be sold.
it was 1700 and i got it for 1000.
look around and see what you can find. you can only know once you play it. have fun!!

The Strats you've researched are probably the prime USA made versions, hence the large price. I almost got a Squier for my HS graduation, but got an Ibanez instead. Both are fine budget priced makes. Go to your local music store, more than likely they will have both types there, try em on, see how they feel, all the research in the world can't make up for how it feels in your hands.
Hope this helps!

I play on the Ibanez RGT models. They will cost you about $600, but they are great guitars. I recommend Ibanez because their necks play very well. Their fretboards are very smooth and straight, just as good as a Fender's. They look great, too. Give one a play next time you're shopping.
