What do you think is the best way to celebrate and what is the ideal present for a 1 year old?

BTW We've already organised the celebration, and have got the present, I'm just curious what everyone else thinks!

Congrats and a happy birthday to your little girl. The best gift you can give your little girl is lots of love and care. I believe that a kid that grows up in a healthy home environment where there is love and trust will grow up to be a great kid! There are lots of toys and clothes that money can buy but all these will be outgrown in time - give your kid your time and love! That's the best gift and it is something precious and priceless!

For a birthday celebration for a 1 year old, i think before the main celebration i'd take them swimming (kids normally like that) as a special family treat, and then for the main celebration i'd probably have a small party at home with no more than 20 guests (as most small children dont like being surrounded by too many people) and i'd probably get a bouncy castle for the children to play on, and just do some nice party foods for everyone to eat. I'd also get a second birthday cake, as some children have a tendancy to tear chunks out of the cake with their bare hands.

I think the ideal present for a 1 year old would be a little rocking horse, but i would wrap it up, then place it in the biggest box i could find and then wrap up the big box.

Little kids love ripping up wrapping paper so i'd let them go mad ripping up the paper, and then once she had played with the rocking horse, she'd probably be as equally egrossed in playing inside the cardboard box.

Thats my idea as a good present and party for a 1 year old.

Oh, and HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY to your daughter !

Cake at home where she can make a mess for the photo op.

My favorite gift is a small red wagon that can be used to hall toddlers or dolls in the house or outdoors. Having 2-3 other 1 year olds as guest is fun but the party should mostly be adults like grand parents, aunts, uncles, great grand parents, great aunts and great uncles.
In our family I found all the 1st birthday kids got way too much stuff for the space the parents had. I have taken up giving them a check instead of a gift but for kids who don't have big family pull along or riding gifts.

Aww, happy birthday little girl!

My son is 1 next Thursday! We're taking him to the "Build a Bear Factory" to make a special first-birthday teddy! Then we're going to have a little tea party with my mum and my brother (my partner's family live too far away to be there) and let him make a mess with his birthday cake. I'm going to decorate the house with balloons and banners and let him play with the balloons and I expect a friend or two will pop around with a card and present.

We're not doing too much. For one thing we don't have a lot of money and want to save what we have for Christmas and he's too young to understand whats going on anyway. Its more of a celebration for us to celebrate a year since we had our precious little man!!!

When my 22 month old turned one me and my now ex-hubbie took lots of pics of her and videotaped her. Later that day we had her birthday party and the next day we took her to McDonalds(her favorite place). You don't have to do much before the celebration, just take pcis and have fun! Good luck and I hope your little girl has a great b-day.

For our sons first Birthday, we just had family over for a tea party. As for presents, I just got him some toys, clothes that he needed and put some money into his trust fund.

Well for my daughters 1st B-day we had a Luau, we roasted a pig and invited all our friends and family over. For the older kids, we had a moonwalk.

Presents, my daughter got clothes, and a bunch of noise making toys. But, she also got 2 of those walk behind/sit in cars. She loves it because it makes all kinds of noise and plays a bunch of songs.

First birthday party is strictly for parents and their friends/relatives. Baby won't have a clue about bithdays and presents are ephemeral.
