My husband, 1yr. old daughter, and I are house-sitting for my husbands aunt. They have three dogs, three cats and one goat. We are house-sitting for a total of 5days/nights. We were not told that we were not allowed to sleep in the master bedroom- but rather given a note to sleep in one of the childrens rooms. (The other rooms were two twin beds or one very untidy teen room) The bed in that room was hard as rock and a double- I fell off,and hurt my shoulder the first night. I should have not expected the master- but if I known we would have brought our air mattress- way more comfortable! On top of that, we get back to the house this evening to find two strangers in the house playing pool! WTF? Come to find out that it's the teen daughters friends. She had tried to call us, couldn't get ahold of us, but let them come over anyway! All of our stuff is laying out in the room they were using. Was she out of line in saying they could still come over especially since she couldn't reach us?

The re were no clear rules set and this is causing major problems. Are you house-sitting, pet sitting, or teen sitting? Do the best you can and hope they don't ask you again. If they do or you do this for someone else, now you know how better to handle the details. What a messy situation. The teen should be left alone unless you received instructions pertaining to her or her behavior.

I would sleep in the master bed and make sure the sheets are changed before they come home.
The teen daughter should not have allowed her friends to enter the house without her parents letting you know this was acceptable to them.
They sound very rude and I would not house sit again for them.

Personally, when I'm house sitting, I make sure to lay out all the rules. Who's allowed in and who isn't. What's okay and what's not. Since the house doesn't belong to the daughter but belongs to her parents, I'd say she was in a big breach of ettiquette. Now, do you want to say anything to your husband's aunt? That's up to you.

Yes, she should not expect you to entertain her friends or endure their presence during your house sitting time. You are doing them a favor by watching their house and many pets, they should return the favor with some respect for your privacy.
