When I go into the browser of my PS3, I can view available demos but I can't download them straight from the browser.
So, I was wondering. Do I have to edit something in the network options to allow downloading from the default homepage? Or do I have to go to the Playstation store category and get the demos from there? If I do have to get them from there, do they cost money?

You have to download demos from the Playstation Store. You cannot download them from the PS3's browser.

And all of the demos, videos, and movie trailers are all free. The only thing that cost money is downloadable classic PS1 games such as Spyro the Dragon, Tekken, and Twisted Metal 2. Also, game add-ons and downloadable PS3 games are the only thing that cost money to download.

Whenever you are in the Playstation Store, it will say whether or not an item is Free or costs money to download.
