My sister told me that my child who will be 9 in april is getting chunky. It pissed me off, but then I got to wondering if she is overweight. I want her to be healthy, and def don't want her to be over weight. I looked online, but there isn't a place to check for children. Too me she looks just fine. I mean she's not bulging out any where, and she fits into normal child sizes.

She's 8 (will be 9 in april)
weight: 74lbs
height : 4 ft 3 inches

She has gained lbs in her mid section lately. I think she's about to go into a growth spurt as she is really due for one.

If she doesn't have a growth spurt by spring sign her up for a new sport maybe a swim team. Swimming laps builds some good muscles and muscles burn calories. Also get everyone bicycles and go on family bike rides on spring days, take along lots of water and build how far you can go in a single afternoon. Don't send a child at 8-9 out alone but go with them.

I have an 8 year old boy, about to be 9 next month. He is chunky, and weighs 110 lbs. He's 5' even. I think that all kids go through a chunky stage about this time in their lives. I also have a 9 year old nephew and an 8 year old nephew and they are on the chunky side too. They've all three always been on the slinder side, so I think it's normal. If you're seriously worried about her, take her to the doc and see what he says. Good luck to you!

Your child should be around 4th grade and that is normal. Just make sure she is exercising and not just laying around eating all the time and she should be fine. My daughter was about 55 pounds at age 9 but she is 89 pounds now and she is 11. The doctor says she is at a good weight. I have a 12 year old niece that is 135 she is well proportioned and is healthy and athletic. Tell your sister to stop using your child to make her self feel better.

When i was 8 i weighed in the 50s and 60s and i wa sabout her height.

it all depends.. does she have a lot of muscle?

if she isnt bulging.. i dont think she is. she mayb just have heavier bones. you know?

sounds like your sister.. is a little opinionated.
Don't let it get to you.

It's really all about her body structure. I'm 5ft. 4in. and weigh 140. However, I'm no overweight, nor am I chunky.
