It's between a Cannon SD1000, an Olympus FE-280, or a Nikon Coolpix L14. The Cannon is the most expensive, but i dont know how good the coolpix or olympus is.

None of those cameras were rated by Consumer Reports recently, but you should know that of the three brands, Nikon has the worst record for reliability. The other two are about equal at or near the best in the list, with only Panasonic point-and-shoot cameras being better.

Among the ones CR did rate, Canon holds the top four spots as well as spots 10, 24, and 25 out of a list of 39 point-and-shoot cameras, and Olympus holds spots 5, 15, 18, 19, 32, 38, and 39. Nikon was in 8, 13, and 36 spots. Canon was also at the top of the SLR list of cameras tested. Based on that, I would go with the Canon.

I like the looks of the SD1000 - it's small, stylish and it takes good pictures. Canon makes a lot of great pocket camera, and I'm sure you won't regret chipping in a few dollars more for a better camera.
